We often take couples to Museum Gardens, botanical gardens beside the River Ouse in the city centre for a few quiet portraits, and York Minster, one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in northern Europe is a lovely backdrop nearby.

We work quietly during the service, mindful that some churches restrict where a photographer may stand. The giving away and the joining of hands are captured with a gentle, unobtrusive eye. The confetti line outside is pure joy, and we are ready for every handful thrown.

We photograph the couple's arrival at the reception, whether by car, on foot or in something grander. The wedding breakfast is the seated meal, and we photograph the room, the toasts and the details. The preparations are often where the most natural photographs come from, and we give them full attention.
