Farnborough is a Hampshire town in the Blackwater Valley long associated with aviation and the biennial Farnborough Airshow. Farnborough Main railway station is on the South Western Main Line from London Waterloo, near junction 4 of the M3. When there is time for couple portraits, Farnborough Park, a public park with open green space near the town centre is a favourite, and The Farnborough Air Sciences Trust Museum, set in the historic 1908 Royal Balloon School headquarters makes a memorable setting.

From nichayathartham to grihapravesam

The saptapadi, the seven steps the couple take together, completes the marriage, and we photograph it with reverence. The kashi yatra, the groom's playful mock-pilgrimage, opens the ceremony with laughter, and we are ready for it. At the heart of a Tamil wedding is the maangalya dharanam, the tying of the thali that seals the marriage.

The sumangali prarthanai gathers the married women of the family in blessing, and we photograph it with care. The mehndi, the nichayathartham and the nalangu each carry their own mood, and we photograph them all. The celebration often opens with the nichayathartham, the betrothal, and we are there for it.
