Asian weddings are not single events but joyous celebrations that unfold over several days, each with its own colour, ritual and emotion. Photographing them well takes preparation, stamina and a deep familiarity with the traditions. Here is how we approach it.
Every family keeps its traditions a little differently. Before the wedding we talk through your events, the mehndi, the sangeet, the haldi, the ceremony and the reception, so we know what is coming and where to stand. Knowing that the vidaai or the laavan is approaching means we never miss the moment.
Some of the warmest, most natural photographs happen at the mehndi and sangeet, away from the formality of the ceremony. We treat these intimate gatherings with the same care as the main day, because they hold so much of the story.
Asian weddings can mean hundreds of guests, an energetic baraat and several venues in a day. For larger celebrations we bring a second photographer so that simultaneous moments, the preparations inside and the procession outside, are both captured.
During the ceremony we work quietly and unobtrusively, keeping to the timings the rituals deserve. There is an art to being present for every important moment without ever intruding on it, and it is something twenty-five years of experience teaches you.
Covering a multi-day celebration is a privilege and our greatest speciality. If you are planning a Hindu, Sikh, Gujarati, Muslim or Tamil wedding, tell us about your events and we will build the coverage around them.
