The short answer
An award winning, London based Asian wedding photographer, Kaushik Bathia has spent more than twenty five years photographing Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, Gujarati and Tamil weddings in Colchester and across Essex. On the dance floor we shoot fast and close, catching the bhangra, the dhol and the uncles who never sit down, so the party reads as alive as it felt. We photograph every Asian wedding tradition in Colchester, from the Hindu mandap and pheras to the Sikh Anand Karaj, the Muslim nikah and the Tamil muhurtham, across multi day celebrations. Over a thousand celebrations have taught us when to step in close and when to stand quietly back. A second photographer, a female photographer for segregated events and hand finished fine art albums are all available, and we travel across Essex and the wider UK so distance is never a problem.
Serving Colchester
Colchester is Britain's oldest recorded town, with country venues. Across Stanway, Wivenhoe and West Mersea and the rest of Essex, we cover the mehndi, the ceremony and the reception with a careful eye. In the gurdwara, the couple circle the Guru Granth Sahib through the four laavan, and we follow that slow procession with the reverence the moment asks for.
We photograph the sacred and the joyful with equal care, the vows as faithfully as the bhangra. Multi-day weddings ask for stamina and planning, so we map the running order with you beforehand and pace ourselves to be sharp from the haldi to the last song. The reception is its own event, so we cover the speeches, the entrance and the dancing with the same care we brought to the morning rituals.
Colchester is Britain's oldest recorded town, with country venues, and we love photographing Asian weddings here and across the Home Counties. We regularly cover nearby Billericay and Epping as well. Venues we have photographed at near Colchester include Wivenhoe House, Prested Hall and Le Talbooth.
Colchester is often described as Britain's oldest recorded town and was granted city status in 2022, with a strong Roman and military heritage. On the Greater Anglia main line to London Liverpool Street, with Colchester and Colchester Town stations, and close to the A12. When there is time for couple portraits, Castle Park, a Victorian park beside the River Colne is a favourite, and Colchester Castle, a Norman keep built on the foundations of a Roman temple makes a memorable setting.

What we offer
Two families' customs blended and photographed with equal care.
At home with the mandap, the pheras, the pithi and the hastamelap.
Calm, unobtrusive coverage that captures the day as you lived it, never staged.
Every tradition
The blessings of the elders close many ceremonies, and we capture them with warmth. During the most solemn passages we step back and lengthen the lens, so the granthi's words or the sacred fire are photographed from a respectful distance. In the gurdwara, the couple circle the Guru Granth Sahib through the four laavan, and we follow that slow procession with the reverence the moment asks for.
From the turmeric of the haldi to the music of the sangeet, the events set the tone for the wedding. The reception carries the celebration into the night with speeches, the first dance and the floor filling for the bhangra, and we stay to the final song. For Gujarati families the garba and the raas fill the evening with colour and movement, and we love photographing them.

The whole celebration
The sangeet brings an evening of rehearsed dances and late-night music before the wedding day itself. We arrive in good time for each pre-wedding event and stay until the celebrations wind down.
When two ceremonies share a single day, we balance our attention carefully, giving each tradition its full weight rather than treating one as a warm-up for the other. Long days test everyone, so we keep our footing calm and our timing steady, catching the guru's words, the shared glances and the quiet exhale once the vows are done.
Why choose us
We know the rhythm of a mandap, a gurdwara and a nikah alike, so the sacred moments are always captured. Photographing Asian weddings for a quarter of a century has taught us the shape of each faith's day, so we anticipate every ritual rather than react to it.
From London we reach Colchester easily, and we know the venues of Essex well. We cover the Home Counties and beyond, and are glad to travel further afield on request.

Where we travel
We are glad to discuss your venues and the journey between them when you enquire. We are glad to talk through your venues and the journeys between them when you first enquire, so the logistics are settled long before the day.

Good to know
The earlier, the better. Because busy and auspicious dates are claimed long in advance whatever the faith, getting in touch early is the wise move. Let us know your date and the events you are planning, and we will let you know our availability straight away.
Absolutely. Treating the customs of the day with the respect they warrant, we photograph the nikah and walima quietly, staying unobtrusive as the contract is signed and the vows are exchanged. If the celebration is segregated, we will provide a female photographer so everyone feels at ease.
Absolutely, on hundreds of occasions. Dhol players, DJs, decorators and caterers are all part of the Asian wedding world we work in, and we know how to weave around them without treading on toes. When everyone cooperates well, the day runs beautifully and we are always ready for the next moment.
Being London-based, we reach Colchester and the towns around it easily, and the journey is a familiar one. What you get is a widely experienced Asian wedding specialist, at home with every tradition, who knows the venues of the area and travels to you without fuss.
Yes. The vidaai is often the most emotional moment of the day, and we record it with quiet respect, staying at a gentle distance so the family can share it without feeling watched. These are among the most treasured images we deliver from an Asian wedding.
We do, and we know these matter enormously to elder relatives. We plan a group list with you beforehand so we can gather everyone efficiently, usually after the ceremony, without keeping guests waiting. The rest of the day we spend recording things as they naturally unfold.
Yes, and it is one of the moments of a Colchester wedding we most look forward to. We capture the dhol, the dancing and the groom's grand arrival, together with the milni as the two families come together, catching every bit of its energy and excitement.
