Asian Wedding Photography Rooted in Epping

Epping is an Essex town on the edge of Epping Forest. We are used to multi-venue days throughout Essex, moving smoothly between Theydon Bois, Loughton and Ongar. At a Muslim wedding, the nikah and the signing of the contract carry great dignity, and we cover them with respect.

We are at ease with large, multi-day celebrations and intimate ceremonies alike. Across a long day we keep watching the edges of the room, where a grandmother's tears or two cousins laughing often say more than the staged group. The reception is its own event, so we cover the speeches, the entrance and the dancing with the same care we brought to the morning rituals.

Epping is a market town on the northern edge of Epping Forest with a long-standing weekly market. Epping is the eastern terminus of the London Underground Central line. For portraits away from the celebration, Epping Forest, with open glades and ancient trees works beautifully, and Epping Forest, the ancient royal forest, and nearby Copped Hall adds a real sense of place.

We know the order of the rituals in each tradition, so we are always in position. We are mindful of every family's customs at the ceremony, and photograph them exactly as they happen. We work quietly around the priest, the granthi or the imam so the ceremony is never disturbed.

For Gujarati families the garba and raas fill an evening with circling colour and movement, and we love following the dandiya sticks and the swirling skirts. The dhol player sets the pulse of the baraat, and we work close to the drum and the dancers so the picture carries the sound within it. From the turmeric of the haldi to the music of the sangeet, the events set the tone for the wedding.
