Birmingham is one of the UK's great Asian wedding cities, with countless temples, gurdwaras, mosques and banqueting venues. We know the venues of the Midlands well, and move easily between the ceremony and reception across Smethwick, Handsworth and Edgbaston. We are ready for the giving of the sindoor and the tying of the mangalsutra at a Hindu ceremony.

We shoot the getting-ready hours as a story of anticipation, from the jewellery going on to the last look in the mirror before the ceremony. Our approach is relaxed and documentary, so you can be present in your own wedding. We capture the details too, the flowers, the jewellery, the mandap and the mehndi, that make your day yours.

We are often in Birmingham for Asian weddings, and from London the area, taking in Smethwick, Handsworth and Edgbaston, is an easy journey. Birmingham is the largest city in the UK outside London and one of the most ethnically diverse, with long established South Asian communities in areas such as Sparkbrook and Handsworth. Birmingham New Street is a major national rail hub, and the city sits at the heart of the motorway network near the M6 and M5. When there is time for couple portraits, Cannon Hill Park and the nearby Birmingham Botanical Gardens in Edgbaston is a favourite, and The Library of Birmingham and the Grade II listed Council House in Victoria Square makes a memorable setting.

The Sacred Fire and the Circling of the Pheras

We learn the sequence of your particular ceremony beforehand, so whether it is Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, Gujarati or Tamil, we anticipate each ritual rather than chase it. The most sacred parts of the day are captured from a respectful distance with a quiet long lens. For Gujarati families we know the hastamelap and the four mangal pheras and photograph each as you keep it.

The reception carries the celebration into the night with speeches, the first dance and the floor filling for the bhangra, and we stay to the final song. We document the engagement and pre-wedding events that begin the journey, when families ask us. We are glad to cover a single event or the whole multi-day celebration.
