The drawing to settle first is not a lighting plan. It is a floor plan. Will the room be split, and if so, where does the division run? Those answers govern the equipment, the positions open to a camera and the whole rhythm of the day. The decision sits with your families rather than with a hall manager, so settle it at home and tell us afterwards.

Birmingham has plenty of rooms built for gatherings of this size. A purpose-built banqueting room is a controlled box: nothing outside to fight, a ceiling already fitted for rigging, uplighters burning whatever colour a decorator selected. Control cuts both ways. A wall washed deep red puts red on every face standing near it, so find out who is able to dim those and how late that can be requested.

The contract turns on one spoken word. Qubool goes past in less breath than a shutter needs, so the frame is decided by where somebody stood a minute earlier, not by reflexes. The signing happens at a table pushed against a wall, lit from above, with witnesses leaning in and the mahr written down. We settle with the imam beforehand what is acceptable for a camera while he speaks, and we agree a signal for stopping. Nothing in that stretch repeats and nobody will stage it again for us.

After that the register changes completely. A baraat arrives outdoors in daylight and moves too fast for careful metering, then the walima becomes a lit event where every source in the room is either ours or the decorator's. Mehndi is close work: hands, dye, and enough patience to wait out a still moment. At the rukhsati the right instinct is to retreat and leave the doorway to the family.

What backup equipment do you bring on the day?+

Both bodies work all day, so neither is a spare sitting in a bag. Every card slot writes a duplicate as it goes, lenses overlap across the range, and batteries outlast a long evening. Failure during a nikah cannot be answered with an apology.

How do you make sure our photographs are never lost?+

Cards get copied twice the same night, onto separate drives held in separate places, and nothing is erased before the finished set reaches you. One physical copy stays in Northwood permanently.

How many hours of coverage do we get on our wedding day in Birmingham?+
