Agree what is photographed
Before the nikah, decide with your family which moments and which relatives should not be photographed. Kaushik works to that list on the day.

A nikah at home in Caldmore, a walima in a Birmingham banqueting hall, a mehndi in Foleshill: Kaushik Bathia photographs Muslim weddings across the West Midlands with quiet, modest coverage that follows your family's wishes and your imam's guidance.
The short answer
Yes. Kaushik Bathia photographs the mehndi, the nikah and the walima across the West Midlands, including Walsall, where 36.6 per cent of people in the built-up area were Muslim at the 2021 census, Birmingham and Coventry's Foleshill. Coverage is calm and modest, with the camera down during prayers. Packages start from £750, and travel from Northwood and any overnight stay are set out in your written quote.
The Owner is very friendly and professional. I have been using Mr Bathia for over 15 years and have seen him through multiple family weddings.
Kaushik has created the perfect wedding albums for us to share with our loved ones forever, the family love them and we couldn't have asked for more. Beyond our expectations. A true professional, great communication and an understanding individual throughout the whole process. Thank you!!!
Kaushik is a fantastic photographer — professional, easy to work with, and incredibly talented. Highly recommend!
Walsall
Walsall has a large Muslim community. At the 2021 census, 36.6 per cent of people in its built-up area were Muslim, and the Caldmore and Palfrey areas of the town have several mosques. For a family there, the nikah can be at the local mosque or in the front room, with the imam, the witnesses and the closest relatives gathered around.
Walsall is about 95 miles from our Northwood studio. A nikah in the afternoon and a walima the same evening can work as a long day there and back. If the mehndi is the night before, or the nikah starts early, an overnight stay usually makes more sense and appears as its own line in your written quote.
Walsall station, reached from the Saddlers shopping centre, has trains to Birmingham International and Wolverhampton, which is useful for relatives coming in for the day.

The nikah
The nikah is short, and the photographs need to be unobtrusive. The imam leads the offer and acceptance, the ijab-e-qubool, the mahr is confirmed and the nikah-nama is signed by the couple and the witnesses. The dua closes it. Kaushik works from a fixed position agreed in advance, so he is not moving through the room while the words are said.
Before the day, we agree with the family which parts of the nikah should be photographed and which should not, and whether any relatives prefer not to appear. During prayers the camera stays down. At a mosque, we follow the photography rules the mosque gives, and if you are not sure what they are, ask the mosque office when you confirm the date.
At home, the challenge is space. A crowded front room with the imam, the witnesses and family on every side is normal, and Kaushik works close, quietly and with patience.
The legal marriage
Unless the mosque is registered for marriages and the legal requirements are met, a nikah is not recognised as a marriage in England on its own, so a civil ceremony is usually added. In Walsall, the register office at the Civic Centre on Hatherton Road has the Hatherton Suite for up to 40 people including the couple and two witnesses, and a statutory room for the couple and two witnesses only.
Birmingham's register office on Holliday Street includes photographs at the signing and in its courtyard garden in the standard ceremony package. Coventry holds its ceremonies in the Gatehouse of Cheylesmore Manor. Kaushik can photograph the civil ceremony as part of the wedding or as a short separate booking, with its own travel line.

The walima
The walima is usually the biggest event, and in the West Midlands it can be held in a purpose-built banqueting suite. Some in the region are strictly no-alcohol with prayer rooms on site; some advertise space for several hundred guests or more. Ask your venue about the timing of prayers during the evening, so the stage photographs and family groups are planned around them.
With a guest list of several hundred, a written stage list matters. Agree with both families which groups come up, in what order, and who will call them. Kaushik works through it in that order, and the entrance, the cake and the meal are photographed around it.
A second photographer can cover the other family's preparations at the same time on the walima morning, then photograph guests at their tables. That second photographer is optional and appears as its own line in the quote for the walima.
Portraits
Walsall Arboretum, opened in 1874, covers 170 acres close to the town centre, with Hatherton Lake and its boathouse, a bandstand and more than 10,000 species of trees and shrubs. It is a short trip from the Civic Centre, so a few portraits after a register office ceremony are easy to fit in.
For a wider view, Barr Beacon Local Nature Reserve is one of the highest points in the West Midlands, with a war memorial and views as far as the Wrekin, Cannock Chase and Birmingham city centre. In Coventry, War Memorial Park on Kenilworth Road is the nearest equivalent to Foleshill. We agree the portrait time and any modesty preferences with you before the day.

Mehndi, dholki and town guides
The mehndi and dholki nights are the most relaxed events of a Muslim wedding: music around the dhol, henna, family songs and plenty of food. They can be at home or in a small hall, and they photograph best when the family forgets the camera is there. Tell us which evenings you want covered, and for how long.

Planning
Before the nikah, decide with your family which moments and which relatives should not be photographed. Kaushik works to that list on the day.
Ask the walima venue when prayers will happen during the evening, so the stage photographs and family groups fit around them.
The Hatherton Suite at Walsall Civic Centre holds up to 40 including the couple and witnesses, a good size for a civil ceremony before the nikah.
Walsall Arboretum's lake, boathouse and bandstand are close to the town centre, a quick stop between the register office and the walima.

Good to know
Yes, at home or at a mosque. The Caldmore and Palfrey areas of Walsall have several mosques, and Walsall is about 95 miles from Northwood. Tell us the mosque's photography rules, if any, and we follow them, with the camera down during prayers.
Yes. Foleshill in northern Coventry has mosques as well as gurdwaras and a Hindu temple, and Coventry is about 73 miles from Northwood, with Birmingham about 88. Each event is listed with its own hours and address, and the travel for both is shown in one written quote.
Only if the mosque is registered for marriages and the legal requirements are met. Otherwise you will need a civil ceremony too, for example in the Hatherton Suite at Walsall Civic Centre or at Birmingham's register office on Holliday Street. Kaushik can photograph both.
We agree beforehand which moments and which relatives should not be photographed, work from fixed positions during the nikah, and keep the camera down during prayers. At a mosque we follow its rules. Coverage is shaped around your family's wishes, not a fixed shot list.
Muslim wedding photography starts from £750, and packages are built around your events. A nikah alone is the smallest booking; mehndi, walima and multi-day coverage rise from there. The drive from Northwood and any overnight stay are set out in writing before you book.
Not always. A single afternoon and evening can work as a long day from Northwood. If the mehndi is the night before or the nikah is early, an overnight stay is usually sensible at about 95 miles, and it is shown in your written quote.
Walsall Arboretum has Hatherton Lake, a boathouse and a bandstand close to the town centre. Barr Beacon gives views across to the Wrekin and Birmingham. We agree the time and any modesty preferences for the portraits with you in advance.
