Share the mosque's guidance
If the nikah is at a mosque in Blackburn or Preston, ask the committee about photography and send us their answer.

Pakistani weddings in Blackburn, Gujarati Muslim weddings in Preston and a mix of both along the M65. Kaushik photographs the nikah, mehndi and walima across Lancashire with modest, discreet coverage your family shapes.
The short answer
Yes. Kaushik Bathia photographs nikah ceremonies, mehndi nights and walima receptions in Blackburn, Preston, Burnley and the rest of Lancashire. Kaushik stays quiet through the nikah and prayers, and what is photographed is your family's choice. Blackburn is about 172 miles from his Northwood studio, so travel and any overnight stay are set out in writing before you book. Coverage starts from £750.
…Kaushik's work is fantastic and he took so much stress out of our special day. He and his team are highly professional, fun and friendly and work with you to capture the shots that you want. He captured some amazing moments of both us and our guests, some natural, some posed but all truly wonderful. We were blown away by our albums and videos and have no hesitation in recommending him to our family and friends.
The Owner is very friendly and professional. I have been using Mr Bathia for over 15 years and have seen him through multiple family weddings.
I have known Kaushik for almost 20 years & in the recent years has been doing various photo projects, where he has been responsive & professional. Highly recommended him.
Two traditions
Lancashire's two largest Muslim communities have different roots. In Blackburn with Darwen, 2021 census figures put the Asian share of residents at 35.8 per cent, with 17.8 per cent Pakistani and 15.8 per cent Indian. In Preston, about 8 miles west, the Muslim population is mostly of Gujarati Indian descent.
The customs differ between families, so we do not assume a fixed order. One family may hold a dholki and mehndi over several evenings, another a short nikah followed by a walima the same day. Send us the events you are planning, and the coverage is built around them.

The nikah
The nikah may take place at the family home or at a local mosque, with the imam, two witnesses and close family present. Kaushik works from the edge of the room during the ijab-e-qubool and the signing of the nikah-nama, and comes closer only once the dua has finished and the family is ready for photographs.
If the nikah is at a mosque, tell us its name and any photography guidance from the committee, and we plan around it before the day. The national Muslim weddings page explains the nikah, mahr, walima and rukhsati in more detail.
A civil marriage can be added before or after. Blackburn's register office is in the Town Hall on King William Street, with an outstation at Darwen Town Hall.
What is photographed
Before the wedding we go through each event with you and agree which moments are photographed, which stay private and whether any guests would rather not appear. Kaushik lowers the camera when salah begins and waits for prayers to end before moving again.
Some families want full portraits of the couple and both families; others prefer details of the henna, the stage and the table settings with few faces. Both can be planned, and the agreement holds through every event, from the mehndi to the rukhsati.
If you are unsure what to include, we can talk it through by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383.

The walima
A walima in Blackburn or Burnley can run to several hundred guests, and it needs a plan for the stage. Send us the order of family groups for the stage photographs, the time of the couple's entrance and the time of the meal, so the stage photographs happen without holding up dinner.
The M65 runs south of Blackburn and serves Burnley at junctions 9, 10 and 11, which makes it easy for guests to travel between a nikah in one town and a walima in the other. A second photographer can cover guests and tables while Kaushik stays with the stage.
Burnley, about 170 miles from Northwood, has its own Muslim wedding page. At the 2011 census, 10.7% of Burnley's residents identified as South Asian or South Asian British.
Portraits
A walima day leaves little time for the couple alone, so a short portrait session earlier is worth planning. Corporation Park, half a mile from Blackburn town centre along Preston New Road, is a Victorian park on the register of parks and gardens of special historic interest.
Witton Country Park lies a mile from the centre on Preston Old Road, with woodland and the Pavilion café, and Cherry Tree and Mill Hill stations are each about half a mile away. In Preston, Avenham Park runs down to the Ribble, with long lawns and a 1930s Japanese rock garden.
If the family prefers portraits indoors, a quiet room at the venue serves just as well.

Cost and travel
A Muslim wedding in Blackburn or Preston is photographed from £750. Packages are built around your day, with the mehndi, nikah and walima each listed with their hours, and any second photographer, pre-wedding shoot or album added as separate lines.
Travel from Northwood to Lancashire is quoted day by day in writing before you book. For a mehndi one night and a walima the next, an overnight stay is usually sensible at this distance and is set out in your written quote. Blackburn station has trains to Manchester Victoria, Preston and Burnley, which helps guests without cars.
