Would 100% recommend Kaushik Bathia Photography! Kaushik and his team photographed all my wedding functions and I couldn't be happier with the results. He listened to us, got to know our family and close one's and captured all the special moments. We had a great mixture of romantic portraits and natural candid photos of the ceremony. Thank you so much for the most beautiful, treasured wedding photos!

The nikah

A nikah at home, at a mosque or in a licensed room

The nikah is the heart of a Muslim wedding: the imam leads the ijab-e-qubool, the offer and acceptance, the mahr is agreed and the nikah-nama is signed. It can take place at home, at a mosque, or in a licensed room in a Westminster or City venue, followed by a dua for the couple.

Tell us your mosque and any photography guidance it gives, and we plan around it. You can have every moment photographed, or only the signing and the dua. We agree that list with you before the day.

Read our national Muslim wedding photography page for how we cover the full celebration.

The legal registration

Registering the marriage at Marylebone Road, Mayfair or Islington

If your nikah is not held at a building registered for marriages, a civil ceremony makes the marriage legal. In Westminster, ceremonies are held at the Old Marylebone Town Hall, with seven rooms and the 100-seat Westminster Room, and at Mayfair Library. City couples marry through the Islington Registrar, at Islington Town Hall on Upper Street, in rooms for 2 to 85 guests.

The civil ceremony can come before the nikah or on the same weekend. It is short and calm, and the steps outside the Westminster venues are where biodegradable confetti is allowed, if your family wants it. Our Old Marylebone Town Hall guide covers the rooms and steps in more detail.

Respectful coverage

Quiet during prayers, modest in every frame

Kaushik works quietly and keeps a respectful distance. He stops photographing during prayers, follows the mosque's guidance and asks before photographing elders or anyone who would rather not be pictured. Modest dress and modest poses come first, and nobody is asked to pose in a way that feels wrong for them.

We agree beforehand which events and moments you want photographed, and which you want left private. That conversation shapes the whole plan.

A second photographer can cover the other family's preparations at the same time, so two events running at once are both covered.

Mehndi and dholki

Mehndi nights and dholki evenings before the wedding

The mehndi brings henna, music and dancing, and the dholki brings songs around the dhol drum in the evenings before the wedding. These can take place at home or in a hall near the family, and Kaushik covers them wherever they are.

We photograph the henna details, the family songs and the dancing, then the quieter moments in between. Travel from Northwood to each event is set out in your written quote, so you know the cost of covering the whole week.

The walima

A walima in a Westminster ballroom or a City hall

The walima, the reception hosted after the nikah, can be the largest event. In central London it can take place in a Westminster hotel ballroom or a City hall. Ask your venue about halal catering, prayer space, guest arrivals and car access, and send us the timings.

For guests coming by train, Westminster station takes the Circle, District and Jubilee lines, and Liverpool Street has the Elizabeth line and four Underground lines. Hyde Park has two public car parks off West Carriage Drive if your walima or portraits are nearby.

The rukhsati, the family farewell, can close the day, and we stay for it if you want it photographed.

Portraits and links

Couple portraits in The Green Park and the Barbican

For portraits, The Green Park has mature trees, grassland and wildflower meadows and no formal flower beds, and the Barbican's brutalist terraces and lake give a modern setting. The Royal Parks need a permit for up to ten people for one hour, and the City needs a Corporation licence for organised shoots in its gardens.
