Thank you for capturing our special day so well and creating beautiful photos that we will treasure forever. We love our stunning wedding album! You took the time to get to know us from the pre-shoot right up until the wedding day and made us feel comfortable and relaxed, and we had a lot of fun along the way especially with your silly little jokes to get us to laugh!

Kalpa S., Google review, 2018

Kaushik was very patient and was very helpful since the start. My family including our guest were constantly asking me who the photographer was as he gave the best service.

The nikah

A Leicester nikah at home or at the mosque

The nikah can be held at a mosque or at the family home, and either suits a gathering of close family. The imam leads the ijab-e-qubool, the offer and acceptance, the mahr is confirmed and the nikah-nama signed by the couple and the witnesses, and the dua follows. It is short, and the photographs need to be calm and unobtrusive.

Kaushik works from one or two positions agreed in advance, rather than moving around the room while the words are said. During prayers, the camera stays down. If the nikah is at a mosque, ask the mosque office about its photography rules when you confirm the date, and send them to us.

At home, the room can be full and the space tight. Kaushik works close and quietly, and waits for the moments rather than asking anyone to repeat them.

Modesty and privacy

Agreeing what is photographed before the day

Every family has its own view of what should and should not be photographed. Some prefer certain relatives not to appear; some want the nikah recorded only in part; some are happy for everything to be covered. We talk this through before the day and keep a simple list, so nobody has to explain it again on the morning.

The same care carries into the walima. If there are guests who would rather not be photographed, tell us, and they are left out of the candid coverage. Portraits of the couple are planned with any modesty preferences in mind, including the choice of a quieter park or a private room at the venue.

The legal marriage

The Fountain Room or the Oak Room: a civil ceremony at Leicester Town Hall

Unless the mosque is registered for marriages and the legal requirements are met, a nikah alone is not recognised as a marriage in England, so a civil ceremony is usually added. In Leicester that can be the register office at the Town Hall, where the Fountain Room holds 40 and looks over the Town Hall fountain, and the Oak Room, a former courtroom, holds 80.

The Town Hall does not allow photographs during the ceremony. The registrar can re-stage the signing afterwards, and couples in either room can use a separate photographic room. We plan the family groups for that window so the civil wedding is still well recorded.

If the civil ceremony is on a separate date, Kaushik can photograph it as a short booking, with its own line in the quote.

The walima

Walima planning for a large Leicester guest list

The walima is usually the largest gathering, and in Leicester it can mean several hundred guests in a ballroom with Asian catering. Ask the venue when prayers will fall during the evening, and plan the entrance, the meal and the stage photographs around them.

A written stage list makes the evening easier. Agree with both families which groups come up, in what order and who calls them. Kaushik works through it in that order, and fits the candid coverage of guests around it.

A second photographer can cover the other family's preparations at the same time on the walima day, then photograph the tables while Kaushik keeps to the stage list. It is optional and shown separately in your quote.

Portraits

Abbey Park and Victoria Park for couple portraits in the city

Abbey Park, just north of the city centre, sits in the grounds of the medieval St Mary's Abbey, with formal gardens, a lavender maze, a lake and riverside walks along the Soar. It opened in 1882 and holds a Green Flag Award. Victoria Park, the city's former racecourse, has tree-lined paths and the War Memorial Arch across 69 acres.

For a quieter session, an early morning before the walima or a weekday after the nikah keeps the parks calm. We agree the timing and the location with you in advance, and keep the portraits short so the day stays on track.

Mehndi, travel and town guides

Mehndi nights, the drive from Northwood and where to read next

The mehndi and dholki evenings are the most relaxed part of the wedding: henna, songs around the dhol and plenty of food, at home or in a small hall. Tell us which evenings you want covered and for how long. Travel from Northwood is quoted up front and set out in writing before you book, and with Leicester about 78 miles away, an overnight stay usually makes sense when the mehndi and nikah fall on consecutive days.

Planning

Planning around Leicestershire

01

Make a privacy list

Note any relatives or moments that should not be photographed. Kaushik keeps to it on the day, so nobody has to explain it twice.

02

Choose the Town Hall room

The Fountain Room at Leicester Town Hall holds 40 and the Oak Room 80. Pick by the size of the family coming to the civil ceremony.

03

Ask about prayer times

Find out from the walima venue when prayers will fall during the evening, so the stage photographs fit around them.

04

Portraits by the Soar

Abbey Park's riverside walks, lake and lavender maze sit just north of the city centre, an easy stop on the day of the nikah.

Good to know

Muslim weddings in Leicestershire: questions answered

Yes, with the mosque's agreement. Tell us which mosque and any photography rules it gives, and we follow them, with the camera down during prayers. Leicester is about 78 miles from Northwood, and the travel is quoted in writing before you book.

It is recognised only where the mosque is registered for marriages and the legal requirements are met. Otherwise a civil ceremony is needed too, for example at the register office in Leicester Town Hall, where the Fountain Room holds 40 and the Oak Room 80. Kaushik can photograph both.

No, the Town Hall does not allow it during the ceremony. A registrar can re-stage the signing afterwards, and couples in the Oak Room or Fountain Room can use a separate photographic room. We plan the family groups for that time.

Before the wedding, your family tells us which relatives and which moments stay out of the photographs, and that list is kept on the day. During the nikah Kaushik stays in agreed positions, and during prayers the camera is lowered. A mosque's own rules come first.

Muslim wedding coverage in Leicestershire starts from £750, and packages are built around your events. The smallest booking is the nikah on its own, and the mehndi, walima and further days are added as you choose. The drive from Northwood and any overnight stay are in the same written quote.

Yes. Loughborough sits about ten miles further from Northwood than Leicester, at roughly 88 miles, and the travel for a Charnwood nikah is quoted in writing like any other. Notice of marriage for the area can be given at the Loughborough Registration Office on Beaumanor Drive.

Abbey Park, with its lake, lavender maze and abbey ruins, and Victoria Park, with the War Memorial Arch, are both close to the city centre. Tell us any modesty preferences for the couple portraits, and we choose the park and the hour to suit.
