…Kaushik's work is fantastic and he took so much stress out of our special day. He and his team are highly professional, fun and friendly and work with you to capture the shots that you want. He captured some amazing moments of both us and our guests, some natural, some posed but all truly wonderful. We were blown away by our albums and videos and have no hesitation in recommending him to our family and friends.

The nikah at home

A nikah in a Southall or Hounslow living room

You can hold the nikah at home, in front of close family, with the imam leading the ijab-e-qubool and the nikah-nama signed at the dining table. In a West London home that might mean thirty people in a through-lounge in Southall or a semi in Hounslow, and it photographs beautifully: close faces, quiet emotion and the mahr agreed in front of the people who matter most.

Before the day, decide with your family which parts you want photographed and which you would rather keep private, and share that with Kaushik. He keeps to the edge of the room, stays quiet and still during prayers, and covers the signing and the duas without asking anyone to pause. If the nikah is at your mosque instead, tell us which one and any photography guidance it gives, and we plan around it.

Where the communities are

Southall, Hounslow, Acton and Kilburn: four different West London starting points

At the 2021 census Muslims made up 24.1 per cent of Southall's population. Hounslow is the most diverse town in its borough, with a large British Asian and Somali community, and Acton's Somali community is concentrated around Church Road. Kilburn, on the Brent and Camden border, has large Bangladeshi and Indian communities alongside its long-established Irish one.

Each of those towns is a different distance from Northwood. Southall is 6.5 miles away, Acton 8.8, Hounslow 9.5 and Kilburn 10.2, and a family in Northolt is only 4.2 miles off. Wherever you are, travel from Northwood is quoted up front and set out in writing before you book, so a nikah in Kilburn and a walima in Hounslow can sit in one quote. See the Southall and Hounslow Muslim wedding pages for more.

Before the nikah

Mehndi and dholki nights from Northolt to Hammersmith

The mehndi and the dholki are the loudest nights of the week, with henna, songs around the dhol and plenty of family in a small space. They can be held at home or in a hired hall in the evenings before the wedding. Kaushik photographs them as they unfold, from the henna patterns to the dancing, and works with whatever light the room has.

If your home is small, a hall nearby is worth considering for the mehndi, and there are halls across Ealing and Hounslow. Tell Kaushik which events your family holds, in what order, and roughly how many guests each one will have. Each evening is planned as its own event with its own start time and listed separately in your quote.

The legal ceremony

Civil registration at Perceval House, Brent Civic Centre or Feltham Lodge

Alongside the nikah, you can register the marriage at a civil ceremony, on the same day or a different one. In Ealing, a statutory ceremony with two witnesses takes place in room N5A at Perceval House on the Uxbridge Road, and larger ones are in the Small Hall at The Brentham Club for up to 30 guests. Brent's ceremony suite in Wembley holds up to 100, with a flower wall and flowered arch.

Hounslow Register Office is at Feltham Lodge, 38-40 Harlington Road West, where the Garden Room holds up to 30 guests and opens onto a Victorian veranda and garden. From May to September there is a Saturday option outdoors in the garden, weather permitting. In Hounslow, if you marry at a licensed venue other than Feltham Lodge, the venue and the registrar are booked separately.

Walima and portraits

Walima receptions and couple portraits at Osterley or Gunnersbury

The walima is the celebration that completes the wedding, and it can be held in a banqueting hall off the A40, near Heathrow or in Hounslow. Kaushik covers the arrival, the stage, the family groups and the meal, and the rukhsati that may come at the end of the night. Wedding photography starts from £750. Packages are built around your day, and a second photographer can cover the stage while Kaushik stays with the couple.

For couple portraits before the walima, Osterley Park on the Ealing and Hounslow border has a Grade II* listed park and a Robert Adam house run by the National Trust. Gunnersbury Park has formal gardens and lakes in 72 hectares of Grade II* listed parkland. Muslim weddings in West London: questions answered

Yes. A nikah at home in Southall, 6.5 miles from Northwood, is photographed quietly from the edge of the room, with the ijab-e-qubool, the signing of the nikah-nama and the duas covered without interrupting the imam. Agree beforehand which moments you want photographed, and travel is set out in your written quote.

Yes. Kaushik photographs Somali weddings as well as Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Indian and Arab ones. Acton's Somali community is concentrated around Church Road, 8.8 miles from Northwood, and Hounslow, 9.5 miles away, has a large Somali and British Asian community. Tell us your family's events and customs and the coverage is planned around them.

Yes. Kilburn, 10.2 miles from Northwood, has a large Bangladeshi community, and Kaushik covers the mehndi, the nikah and the walima for Bangladeshi families there. Each event is planned with you and listed in your quote with its own travel from Northwood.

Quietly and still. Kaushik stops moving and photographing during prayers unless the family has asked otherwise, keeps to the edge of the room during the nikah, and follows any guidance from the imam or the mosque. The aim is that nobody notices the camera at the moments that matter most.

Hounslow Register Office is at Feltham Lodge in Feltham, where the Garden Room holds up to 30 guests and opens onto a Victorian veranda and garden. From May to September there is a Saturday option outdoors, weather permitting. A licensed venue elsewhere in Hounslow needs the venue and the registrar booked separately.

Wedding photography starts from £750. Packages are built around your day, so the price depends on how many events you want covered, from the mehndi to the walima, whether you add a second photographer, and whether you would like an album. Send the dates of each event and a written quote follows.
