The lie of the land
How West London lines up, from Northolt to the Thames
West London, as this page uses it, starts on the A40 corridor at Northolt and runs down through the seven towns of the London Borough of Ealing to Hounslow, Feltham and the airport. It then reaches east through Brent to Willesden Green, Queen's Park and Kilburn, and south to the river at Chiswick, Hammersmith and Chelsea. Ealing borough alone was created in 1965 from the old boroughs of Ealing, Acton and Southall, and it is now the third most populous borough in London.
Distance from Northwood grows as you head south-east. Northolt is 4.2 miles away, Greenford 5.7, Perivale 6.0 and Southall 6.5. Hanwell, West Ealing, Park Royal and Ealing Broadway follow between 7.1 and 7.6 miles, then Northfields, Dollis Hill, Brent, Acton, Willesden Green and Cricklewood between 8.2 and 9.0. The outer ring is Heathrow (9.2), Hounslow (9.5), Chiswick (9.9), Queen's Park (10.0), Kilburn (10.2), Hammersmith and Fulham (10.7), Feltham (10.9) and Kensington and Chelsea (11.3).
None of that is far in miles, but it is London driving, with the A40 Western Avenue, the A406 North Circular and the Hanger Lane gyratory where they meet. That is why travel from Northwood is quoted up front for every job here, in writing and before you book, whether you live two stops down the Central line in Northolt or beside the river in Fulham.
