The short answer

Is there a photographer who covers all of Hertfordshire?

Yes. Kaushik Bathia photographs weddings in every part of Hertfordshire, from Watford and St Albans to Hertford, Stevenage and Royston, and travels to you for family, newborn, headshot, pet and commercial sessions. The studio is at 21 Joel Street, Northwood Hills, 1.8 miles from Oxhey and 3.8 miles from Watford. The northern towns are 22 to 35 miles away, and travel from Northwood is quoted up front and set out in writing before you book. Wedding photography starts from £750.

The county next door

Why south-west Hertfordshire is almost local to the studio

Hertfordshire wraps around the top of north-west London, and our studio on the Joel Street parade in Northwood Hills sits right against its south-western corner. Oxhey is 1.8 miles away, Carpenders Park 2.3, Bushey and Rickmansworth 3.6, Croxley Green 3.7 and Watford town centre 3.8. Mill End and Maple Cross, on the western fringe of Rickmansworth, are both under five miles. For families in Three Rivers, Watford and the Bushey side of Hertsmere, a session at home or at the studio is about as easy as it gets.

That closeness matters for more than convenience. A short drive means Kaushik can arrive early for a newborn session, return for a second look at a park before a family shoot, or hop between a ceremony and a reception without the day turning into a long haul. Chorleywood (6.0 miles), Sarratt (6.4), Borehamwood (6.9) and Radlett (7.0) sit just beyond that first ring, and still count as close by any sensible measure.

Three bands

Near, middle and far: how Hertfordshire divides up from Northwood

It helps to think of Hertfordshire in three bands. The near band runs from Oxhey out to Kings Langley (7.9 miles) and Shenley (8.4), covering the Colne and Gade valleys, Watford, Three Rivers and southern Hertsmere. The middle band takes in London Colney (9.8), Hemel Hempstead (10.6), St Albans (10.9), Potters Bar (11.7), Berkhamsted (12.8), Hatfield (13.7) and Harpenden (14.9), along with Welwyn Garden City, Tring and Cheshunt between 16 and 18 miles.

The far band is the east and north. Hertford is 19.6 miles from the studio, Hoddesdon 20.4, Knebworth 20.7, Ware 21.8 and Stevenage 22.6. Beyond that come Hitchin (24.6), Letchworth Garden City (27.2), Baldock (28.4), Bishop's Stortford (30.7) and Royston (34.9). We cover every one of them for weddings and for sessions; the only difference is the journey, and travel from Northwood is set out in your written quote so nothing about it is left vague.

For a session in the far band, it can be worth weighing a home visit against a trip to the studio. Some families prefer Kaushik to come to them; others combine a visit to Northwood with a day out. Whichever you choose, the drive from Northwood to a far-band home is set out in your written quote before you book.

How it works

Weddings anywhere in Hertfordshire, sessions wherever you are

Weddings have no radius. Whether your ceremony is at one of Hertfordshire County Council's eight register offices or at one of the more than 100 approved venues the council lists across the county, Kaushik will be there from the preparations to the last dance. Wedding photography starts from £750, with bespoke packages built around your day.

Sessions work the other way round: Kaushik comes to you. That might mean your living room in Croxley Green, your garden in Harpenden, a park in St Albans or your office on Clarendon Road in Watford. If you would rather come to us, the studio at 21 Joel Street is two minutes from Northwood Hills station on the Metropolitan line, the same line that serves Rickmansworth and Chorleywood. For a Hertfordshire session, the price comes on request: ring or WhatsApp Kaushik on 07956 505383.

Backdrops

Hertfordshire landmarks that shape a photograph

The county has more history packed into it than most people expect. In St Albans, the Clock Tower in the Market Place, completed by 1405, is the only surviving medieval town belfry in England, and Verulamium Park covers 175 acres over the Roman city whose walls can still be seen. Berkhamsted Castle on White Hill holds the remains of an 11th to 15th-century motte-and-bailey castle, and Hertford Castle's brick gatehouse dates from 1463.

Further north and east the landmarks change character. The Digswell Viaduct carries the East Coast Main Line over the Mimram valley on forty arches. Welwyn Garden City has the white silos of the Grade II listed Shredded Wheat Factory and the near mile-long Parkway. Ware has Scott's Grotto, the most extensive shell grotto in the UK, and Royston has a carved chalk cave found beneath its central crossroads in 1742. These are places to plan a portrait walk around, not just names on a map.

Business

Headshots and commercial work for Hertfordshire firms

Watford is the county's office centre. Hertfordshire County Council designates it a major sub-regional centre, and the Watford Local Plan treats Clarendon Road as its Primary Office Location, with professional services the town's largest employment sector. Croxley Park between Rickmansworth and Watford offers about 700,000 sq ft of office space across 13 buildings, and Watford Business Park covers 30 hectares off Greenhill Crescent. All of them are under five miles from the studio.

Further out, Leavesden Park lets offices beside Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, Maylands Business Park is Hemel Hempstead's main industrial area, and St Albans has the STANTA Business Centre and a city-centre Business Improvement District. Kaushik brings lighting and a backdrop to your premises for team headshots, or your staff can come to Northwood for individual sittings. For product and premises photography, the shoot happens where the work is made.

Dog and pet photography in Hertfordshire

Dog sessions suit Hertfordshire's woods and commons: Whippendell Wood beside Cassiobury Park welcomes dogs, and Oxhey Woods has a free car park. Councils set their own rules, and Three Rivers limits one person to four dogs, so Kaushik plans around them. See pet photography and the Watford pet photographer page.
