Excellent photography services before and during our wedding. Really enjoyed him being our photographer and he did a great job with the pictures. Working with him on the albums post wedding has been fantastic, he takes time to understand our ideas and portrays them in his work. Brilliant personality and very professional.

Nitesh P., Google review, 2016

The county

Bedfordshire from the Chilterns to the Great Ouse

Bedfordshire changes a good deal from south to north. The southern edge is chalk country: Dunstable Downs, an escarpment of the Chiltern Hills, rises to about 243 metres, the highest ground in the county, and looks out over the Vale of Aylesbury. Below it lies the Luton and Dunstable conurbation, which together with Houghton Regis is home to more than 286,000 people. Head north and the land opens out into river towns: Leighton Buzzard on the Ouzel, Flitwick on the Flitt, Biggleswade on the Ivel and Bedford on the Great Ouse.

The county is run by three unitary councils, and that matters more than it sounds if you are planning a wedding. Luton Borough Council has governed Luton on its own since 1997. Central Bedfordshire Council covers the market towns and villages in the middle, from Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard to Ampthill, Woburn and Biggleswade. Bedford Borough Council runs the county town and its parks. Each has its own register office and its own rules for ceremony rooms.

Three main railway lines cross the county from south to north. Thameslink trains on the Midland Main Line stop at Luton, Luton Airport Parkway, Flitwick and Bedford; the West Coast Main Line calls at Leighton Buzzard, whose station actually sits in Linslade; and the East Coast Main Line serves Biggleswade. The M1 serves the county at junctions 11A, 12 and 13. That shape decides how guests reach a venue and where a session works best.

Distance

Which parts of Bedfordshire are closest to Northwood

The south of the county is nearest. Luton is about 20 miles from the studio, Dunstable about 20 and Houghton Regis about 21. Leighton Buzzard, close to the Buckinghamshire border, is about 24 miles. The middle of the county comes next, with Flitwick and Woburn both about 28 miles away and Ampthill about 30. Biggleswade in the east is about 34 miles, and Bedford, the county town, is about 37.

We are honest about what that means. None of Bedfordshire is local to Northwood, so every booking here involves Kaushik driving out from the studio. That does not limit the work: weddings, family sessions, headshots and everything else on this page are available across the county. It does mean the cost of getting to you is set out in your written quote, so you can see it before you commit.

If you would rather travel the other way, the Northwood studio is open to you. It is at 21 Joel Street in Northwood Hills, on the Joel Street parade and two minutes from Northwood Hills station on the Metropolitan line. A controlled studio setting suits newborn and headshot sessions in particular, and you can still book an at-home or park session in Bedfordshire for a later milestone.

Weddings

Weddings in every corner of Bedfordshire

Wedding photography with Kaushik starts from £750, and packages are built around your day. Bedfordshire has a wide spread of settings for a wedding: golf clubs, restored barns, country house hotels, historic gardens, riverside hotels in Bedford and large banqueting halls in Luton. Whatever the setting, the planning starts with which register office covers it.

For a civil ceremony, Luton couples deal with Luton Register Office, most of the county uses Central Bedfordshire's register office at The Court House in Ampthill, and Bedford couples use the Old Town Hall on St Paul's Square. Our Bedfordshire wedding photography page goes through each in detail, and the Bedfordshire Asian wedding photography page covers multi-day Hindu, Sikh and Muslim celebrations, with Luton at about 20 miles the nearest town for them.

Sessions

How a come-to-you session works in Bedfordshire

For family, couples, portrait and pet sessions, Kaushik comes to you. That can be your home or garden, or one of the county's open spaces. In the south there is Wardown Park near Luton town centre, a Grade II listed historic park with a boating lake, and Stockwood Park on the southern edge of Luton, with its tree-lined avenue and walled garden. Houghton Hall Park in Houghton Regis has 42 acres of parkland and woodland and a visitor centre with free parking.

Further north, Rushmere Country Park near Leighton Buzzard has over 400 acres of woodland, heathland and meadows with free admission. Ampthill Great Park covers about 160 acres shaped by Capability Brown in 1771 and 1772, with Katherine's Cross standing near the site of the old castle. Around Bedford, the Embankment Gardens, Bedford Park and the 360-acre Priory Country Park give a riverside or lakeside backdrop. Tell us which part of Bedfordshire you are in and we will suggest the nearest sensible spot.

Headshots and commercial work happen at your premises, whether that is an office in Luton or Bedford or a unit in the Woodside industrial area of Dunstable and Houghton Regis, which connects to junction 11A of the M1. Kaushik brings lighting and backdrops to your building, so staff are photographed between meetings rather than travelling to a studio.

Where next

Bedfordshire towns, one guide at a time

Each main town in the county has its own page with local detail. Start in the south with Luton, Dunstable and Houghton Regis, the three closest to the studio. On the western side, read Leighton Buzzard and Woburn, where the Woburn Estate and its 3,000-acre Deer Park sit beside a Georgian village rebuilt after the fire of 1724.

In the middle of the county, Ampthill and Flitwick sit two miles apart, with The Court House register office in Ampthill and the Thameslink station in Flitwick. The north and east are covered by Bedford, the county town, and Biggleswade on the River Ivel. The table below lists every Bedfordshire town page with its distance from Northwood.

Planning

Planning around Bedfordshire

01

South Bedfordshire first

Luton, Dunstable and Houghton Regis are about 20 to 21 miles from Northwood, so they are the most straightforward Bedfordshire locations for a short family or pet session.

02

Three councils, three register offices

Luton, Central Bedfordshire and Bedford Borough each run their own register office, so the council that covers your venue decides where any civil paperwork and ceremony rooms sit.

03

Free country parks

Rushmere Country Park near Leighton Buzzard has free admission, and Houghton Hall Park has 39 free parking spaces at its visitor centre, which makes either an easy meeting point.

04

Studio as an option

Families in Bedford or Biggleswade, the two farthest towns, can come to the Northwood studio for a newborn or headshot session instead of booking a home visit.

05

Prices by phone

Wedding photography starts from £750. Session prices are given on request by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383, with any Bedfordshire travel shown separately.
