Book in the second trimester
Message us around 20 weeks with your due date. A Bedfordshire date between 28 and 34 weeks can then be held, with a spare in case of rain.

A relaxed maternity photoshoot in your Bedfordshire home, in one of the county's country parks, or at the Northwood studio, timed for the weeks when the bump shows and you still feel like walking.
The short answer
The usual window in Bedfordshire, as anywhere, is 28 to 34 weeks, when the bump is clearly visible but a gentle walk in a park is still comfortable. Get in touch in the second trimester so a date is held. Kaushik comes to your home or a nearby open space, from Luton at about 20 miles from the studio to Bedford at about 37, and travel from Northwood is set out in your written quote before you book.
Our usual session area is within about 20 miles of the studio. Further out in Bedfordshire, sessions are by arrangement, with travel quoted in writing before you book.
Really appreciated the effort that went into the photoshoot and getting my baby to smile for the photos. Lovely photos to take home. Would recommend.
Great service! Kaushik was able to capture some beautiful shots for my maternity baby and bump shoot. He was very helpful and guided me with the poses throughout the shoot. I love the pictures & I’m looking forward to having the final edits!
We had a family photo shoot, 11 people in toto. Great experience, lots of fun and laughter had during the session, resulting in some great pictures 😀
Timing
The window between 28 and 34 weeks suits most pregnancies. The shape of the bump is clear in photographs, and standing, kneeling or strolling for an hour is usually still easy. Later than that, a home session is kinder than a long walk, and we can adjust the plan to how you feel on the day. If you are expecting twins or your midwife has advised rest, tell us and we will keep everything indoors and short.
Because the whole of Bedfordshire sits 20 miles or more from Northwood, we fix the date a few weeks ahead rather than at short notice. That lets Kaushik plan the drive up the M1 or across to the Bedford side, and gives you a spare date if the weather turns or you are simply tired. A rearranged maternity session is normal, and nobody minds.

Outdoors
The south of the county has two large Luton parks within easy reach of home for many families. Stockwood Park on London Road covers around 100 hectares and has a tree-lined avenue and a historic walled garden, which gives a sheltered, enclosed background for a flowing dress. Wardown Park, close to Luton town centre, is a Grade II listed park with a boating lake, and the lakeside paths are level and short.
Further north, Ampthill Great Park offers about 160 acres of parkland and woodland whose present shape comes from Capability Brown's work there in 1771 and 1772, so the long views and scattered trees have a designed calm about them. Around the county town, Bedford Park has a lake and dates from 1888, and Priory Country Park spreads over 360 acres of lakes, meadows and woodland inside a bend of the Great Ouse.
We pick a spot with a short, flat walk from the car and somewhere to sit. For a maternity shoot that matters more than a famous view.
At home
Staying in is just as good an option. A bedroom with a large window, a nursery that is half painted, or a garden in the evening light can all carry a maternity portrait. Kaushik brings lighting and a simple backdrop, so even a modest room in a Leighton Buzzard terrace or a new-build in Biggleswade will work. Partners and older children join in for some frames, then step out so you can have a few quiet portraits on your own.
An at-home shoot takes about an hour to ninety minutes with breaks. You can change outfits in your own bedroom, sit down whenever you need to and keep the kettle on. It is also the easiest option late in the third trimester, or in winter when the parks are muddy and dark by four o'clock.

The studio
If you live in the south of the county, you may prefer to drive to the studio rather than tidy a room at home. The studio is at 21 Joel Street in Northwood Hills, on the Joel Street parade, and has controlled lighting and plain backdrops for a cleaner, more fashion-led maternity look. Dunstable and Houghton Regis families are about 20 to 21 miles away by road, and Luton is about 20.
For Bedford, Biggleswade or Ampthill, the trip is longer, so home or a local park is usually the easier choice. Either way, the choice is yours, and we will tell you honestly which option suits the look you are after.
What to wear
Fitted dresses and stretchy knits show the bump; long, light fabrics move well outdoors on a breezy day at Ampthill or along the river in Bedford. Plain colours read better than busy prints. Bring flat shoes for walking and change into anything special at the spot. Partners look good in soft, neutral tones that sit alongside yours rather than matching exactly.
Scan pictures, tiny shoes and a hand-knitted blanket from a grandparent all make good details. Bring them along and we will find a moment for each.

Planning

Choose a park spot close to parking. At Stockwood or Bedford Park, a few minutes on level paths is plenty for a comfortable session.
A west-facing room or garden in the hour before sunset gives warm, soft light for maternity portraits in any part of the county.
If you would like newborn photographs as well, mention it now. We can hold a window for the first two weeks after the birth.
Bedfordshire parks and open spaces that suit an unhurried maternity walk; check paths and facilities before the day.

Good to know
Kaushik comes to any part of the county. Luton and Dunstable are about 20 miles from the studio, Leighton Buzzard about 24, Flitwick and Woburn about 28, Ampthill about 30, Biggleswade about 34 and Bedford about 37. The travel from Northwood for your town is quoted up front and set out in writing before you book.
Session prices are given on request, so call or WhatsApp 07956 505383. Tell us whether you would like home, a park or the studio, and roughly where you live, and we will send the price with any travel in writing.
Yes. Most maternity sessions include a few frames with a partner, and older children usually love being involved for ten minutes or so. After that they can go and play while Kaushik takes some quieter portraits of you on your own.
We move the session indoors to your home or rearrange it. Bedfordshire's open parks have little shelter, so a wet forecast is a good reason to switch to the second date we hold for you.
Not at all, though a shoot at home is usually more comfortable by then. We keep it short, with plenty of sitting poses, and we can bring the date forward if your midwife expects an early arrival.
Yes. You can book both together. The maternity shoot happens in the third trimester and the newborn session follows in the first two weeks after the birth, either at your Bedfordshire home or at the studio.
Behind the camera is Kaushik Bathia, established in Northwood since 2001, FBIPP and FMPA, with five European Kodak Gold Awards.
