The short answer

When should I book a maternity photoshoot in Buckinghamshire?

In Buckinghamshire, plan the session for somewhere between 28 and 34 weeks, when the bump is clearly showing but walking and standing are still comfortable. Get in touch in the second trimester so we can hold a date, then choose between your home, an outdoor spot such as Denham Country Park or Chesham Bois Common, or the Northwood studio. Prices come by phone or WhatsApp, and travel from Northwood is set out in your written quote.

Our usual session area is within about 20 miles of the studio. Further out in Buckinghamshire, sessions are by arrangement, with travel quoted in writing before you book.

I was nervous about my newborn’s photoshoot but Kaushik made the experience very unforgettable. He knew how to handle my two week old baby with care. The pictures came out very beautiful and were forever grateful. He’s honestly the best. Very experienced, patient and professional. I’ll definitely use him again.

Timing

Why 28 to 34 weeks suits a Buckinghamshire maternity shoot

Between 28 and 34 weeks the shape of the bump reads well in a photograph, and most parents still have the energy for an hour of gentle posing and a short walk. Book a little earlier if you are expecting twins or your midwife has suggested an early arrival. We hold the date with some slack, because a shoot in a Chilterns wood depends on the weather and on how you feel that morning.

If you live near Denham, Gerrards Cross or the Chalfonts, the studio is only about 4 to 7 miles away, so an indoor session is an easy option on a wet day. From Chesham or Beaconsfield, at about 10 to 11 miles, a home visit from Kaushik is often easier. Either way, the time of day is chosen around your energy rather than a fixed slot.

Outdoors

Flat paths, chalk streams and spring colour in south Bucks

Late pregnancy is not the moment for a steep climb, so we favour places with easy ground. Denham Country Park has a 1.3-mile easy-access trail through wetland meadow and woodland, past two rivers and the Grand Union Canal, about 4 miles from the studio. The visitor centre there sits beside the Misbourne chalk stream, which gives soft water in the background without any scrambling.

For colour, Langley Park Country Park at Iver has rhododendrons in its Temple Gardens that flower from April to June, with views towards Windsor Castle. Further north, Chesham Bois Common has long grassy rides through mixed woodland and oaks planted since 1894, and Captain's Wood near Chesham carries bluebells and wood anemones in spring. We pick one location per session so you are not moving between cars.

At home

A maternity session in your own Buckinghamshire home

Staying at home works well in the Chalfonts, Amersham or Beaconsfield. Kaushik brings portable lighting and a backdrop, and uses a bedroom with good window light or a quiet corner of the living room. You can sit down between set-ups, change outfits in your own wardrobe and bring in a partner, older children or the dog without any travel on your side.

A home session also lets us photograph the nursery as it comes together, the folded baby clothes and the scan pictures on the fridge. Those small details sit well alongside the posed images. Sessions run at a calm pace, usually with a break for water or a snack, and nothing is rushed to fit a booking at a public park.

Studio

The Northwood studio for parents in the Chalfonts and Denham

For Bucks parents the studio at 21 Joel Street, Northwood Hills, has one practical advantage: it sits two minutes from a Metropolitan line station. That matters in Buckinghamshire, because Amersham, Chesham and Chalfont & Latimer are on the same line, so a session is possible without driving if you prefer. In the studio we control the light completely, which suits silhouette images and fabric gowns.

Studio sessions are a good choice in winter, when Bucks woods are muddy and the light fades early. They also give you privacy if you would rather not pose in a public park. You can book a maternity photoshoot in the studio and come back with the baby a few weeks later for a newborn session.

Planning

What to wear, who to bring and how the hour runs

Fitted dresses, soft knitwear and plain colours work best; strong patterns pull attention from the bump. In a beech wood, cream, sage and dusty pink sit well against the green, and deep colours suit the studio backdrop. Bring two or three outfits and comfortable shoes for the walk to the spot, and change into anything delicate once we are there.

Partners and older children are welcome for part of the session, and a few frames with a sibling's hand on the bump are often the ones families print. We start with simple standing poses, move to seated ones and finish with any close detail images. Travel from Northwood is quoted up front and set out in writing before you book, and session prices are given on request.

Planning

Planning around Buckinghamshire

01

Pick level ground

Denham Country Park's 1.3-mile easy-access trail is gentle underfoot, which matters more at 32 weeks than any view.

02

Spring flowers at Iver

Langley Park's Temple Gardens rhododendrons flower from April to June, so a spring due date gives a strong backdrop.

03

Metropolitan line option

From Amersham, Chesham or Chalfont & Latimer, the studio at Northwood Hills is on the same Underground line.

04

Plan a newborn follow-on

Book the maternity shoot and the newborn session together so the date in the first two weeks is already pencilled in.

Good to know

Maternity photoshoots in Buckinghamshire: questions answered

Yes. Kaushik brings lighting and a backdrop to your home anywhere in the county, from Denham and Gerrards Cross to Chesham, Marlow or Aylesbury. A room with a large window is ideal. Travel from Northwood is set out in your written quote, and the session price is given on request.

We suggest easy, level spots: the trail at Denham Country Park, the grassy rides of Chesham Bois Common, Meades Water Gardens in Chesham or the Temple Gardens at Langley Park when the rhododendrons are out. We avoid steep woodland slopes for comfort and safety.

Bucks woods turn muddy quickly, so we keep a back-up. We can move the session into your home, switch to the Northwood studio or rearrange the date. You will not be asked to stand in drizzle, and nothing is lost by moving.

Usually about an hour, with breaks whenever you need them. A home session can run a little longer if you want several outfits or to include the nursery. We plan the pace around how you feel late in pregnancy.

Yes. Partners, older children and pets can join for part of the session. Children tend to do best early on, before they tire, so we usually start with family frames and finish with portraits of you on your own.

Session prices are given on request by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383, or through the enquiry form. Tell us your town and preferred setting so the quote includes any travel from Northwood.

Your photographer is Kaushik Bathia, a fellow of both the BIPP and the MPA with five European Kodak Gold Awards, working from the studio he opened in Northwood in 2001.
