The short answer

When should I book a maternity photoshoot in Berkshire?

Book during the second trimester and plan the session itself for 28 to 34 weeks, when the bump shows clearly and most people are still comfortable standing and walking a little. In Berkshire, Kaushik comes to your home or a park nearby, anywhere from Slough, about 10 miles from the studio, out to Newbury, about 42. Travel from Northwood is written into the quote before you confirm, and the session price is given by phone or WhatsApp.

Our usual session area is within about 20 miles of the studio. Further out in Berkshire, sessions are by arrangement, with travel quoted in writing before you book.

Kaushik has photographed my wife and me for the bump to baby photo shoot. We really enjoyed it. He knows how to make us smile and look happy and relaxed. We really appreciate his work and we look forward to meet him on our next appointment for the newborn photo shoot! Thank you again Kaushik!

Really appreciated the effort that went into the photoshoot and getting my baby to smile for the photos. Lovely photos to take home. Would recommend.

Very good experience. Did a family shoot at Kaushik Bathia's studio yesterday. He was amazing at getting all of us to give natural smiles.

Timing

Why 28 to 34 weeks suits a Berkshire maternity shoot

Between 28 and 34 weeks the shape of the bump is clear in every outfit, yet walking a few hundred metres to a lakeside or a flower bed is still realistic for most people. Later than that, a shoot is still possible, but we keep it closer to the car or move it indoors. If you are expecting twins or your midwife has advised rest, say so when you enquire and we will plan a seated, home-based session from the outset.

Seasons matter as much as weeks in Berkshire. A due date in early summer puts the shoot among spring blossom, while a winter due date may mean the session falls in late autumn, when daylight is short and the gentler light comes early in the afternoon. We look at your due date and the calendar together, then hold a fallback date a week later in case the weather turns.

Outdoors

Gardens and lakes from Windsor Great Park to the Kennet valley

The Ascot side of the county reaches into Windsor Great Park, where some of Berkshire's most planted landscapes are. The Valley Gardens cover 250 acres of valleys planted with azaleas, magnolias and plants from around the world, and the Savill Garden, created by the horticulturist Eric Savill in 1932, has 35 acres of gardens and woodland. Against that much colour, a flowing dress in a plain shade reads beautifully in a spring session.

In Slough, Herschel Park is a 3.5-hectare Grade II listed park and nature reserve laid out by Sir Joseph Paxton and restored to its Victorian layout, with a lake and wildlife ponds. It is compact, so the lake and the ponds are close together. East of Bracknell town centre, Lily Hill Park offers an original yew walk and an Edwardian water garden within 23 hectares of heritage parkland.

Further west, Caversham Court in Reading is a walled garden whose terraced lawns lead down to the Thames, with ancient yew trees and a lavender bank that suit an early summer session. In Newbury, Victoria Park has a restored historic bandstand and planting schemes that judges noted when it retained its Green Flag Award for 2025/26.

At home

A maternity session in your own Berkshire home

Plenty of people prefer to stay in. A session at home can use a bay window, a bedroom with morning light or a garden with a hedge behind you, whether that is in Maidenhead, on one of the estates Bracknell gained as a new town after 1949, or in a cottage near Thatcham. Kaushik brings portable lighting, so a north-facing room is no obstacle, and furniture is moved only as much as needed and put back afterwards.

Home sessions also suit partners and older children who want to be part of the pictures. A toddler can join for ten minutes and then go back to playing while the rest of the session carries on. We plan outfits together beforehand: fitted knitwear, a long dress or simply an oversized shirt all photograph well against plain walls, and a fabric drape can be brought along if your rooms are busy with colour.

Studio

Choosing the Northwood studio from Berkshire

The studio at 21 Joel Street, Northwood Hills, is about 10 miles from Slough and about 14 from Maidenhead, so for families in the east of Berkshire it is a realistic alternative to a home session. It gives controlled light, plain and textured backdrops and a chance to sit down between set-ups. It is also the simple answer when a March or November forecast refuses to cooperate.

For anyone in Reading, Thatcham or Newbury, between about 26 and 42 miles away, it is usually easier for Kaushik to come to you than for you to drive a long way in late pregnancy. Either arrangement is fine. For a home or park session in the west of the county, travel from Northwood is set out in your written quote next to the session details, so the full figure is known before you book.

Next steps

From bump to newborn: planning both shoots in Berkshire

You can book a maternity shoot and a newborn session at the same time, so the newborn date can be pencilled in around the due date and confirmed after the birth. The Berkshire newborn page explains how home sessions work in the first fortnight, and the national maternity photoshoot page shows outfits and studio set-ups.

If you have older children, a family session later in the year can complete the set, and the family photography in Berkshire page covers parks across the county. For every service Kaushik offers in the county, from weddings to office headshots, start at the Berkshire photographer hub.

Planning

Planning around Berkshire

01

Allow for Savill Garden entry

The Savill Garden first opened to paying visitors in 1953, so plan for entry when you choose it, and leave time to walk its paths at an easy pace.

02

Thames-side colour in Reading

Caversham Court's lavender bank and terraced lawns above the river give soft colour for a summer bump session, about 26 miles from the Northwood studio.

03

Keep the walking short

Herschel Park in Slough covers 3.5 hectares, so its lake and ponds sit close together, which suits the later weeks when standing time is limited.

04

Two outfits are plenty

One fitted outfit and one flowing one cover most looks, and changing twice is enough in a park or garden where facilities are limited.

05

Reserve spring dates early

The Valley Gardens' azaleas and magnolias make spring popular, so reserving around 20 weeks gives you the widest choice of weekend dates.

Good to know

Maternity photoshoots in Berkshire: questions answered

Yes. Kaushik brings lighting and backdrops to homes anywhere in Berkshire, from Windsor and Maidenhead in the east to Thatcham and Newbury in the west. A room with a window and a little floor space is enough. The journey from Northwood appears in the quote in writing, and the session price is given on request by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383.

In the east, Herschel Park in Slough and the Valley Gardens and Savill Garden in Windsor Great Park. In the middle of the county, Lily Hill Park in Bracknell and Dinton Pastures near Wokingham, a 350-acre park of lakes, meadow and woodland. In the west, Caversham Court and Forbury Gardens in Reading, and Victoria Park in Newbury.

Most sessions take place between 28 and 34 weeks. The bump is clearly visible by then and moving around a garden is still comfortable for most people. If you are booking late, or your midwife has asked you to rest, we can keep everything at home and seated.

Of course. Partners usually join for part of the session, and older children can come in for a few frames and then go back to playing. At home that is simple; in a park, bring a snack and something to keep a toddler busy while the solo pictures are taken.

We keep a fallback date about a week later, which is still inside the 28 to 34 week window. If the weather turns on the day, the session can move indoors to your home, or to the Northwood studio if you are in the east of the county around Slough or Windsor.

Session prices are given on request by phone or WhatsApp, because they depend on where the shoot happens, how long it runs and what you would like printed. The mileage from Northwood to a Berkshire home or park is shown in your written quote, before you agree to anything.

It can be, but at 26 to 42 miles most people in the west of Berkshire prefer Kaushik to come to them. The studio suits those who want a plain backdrop and controlled light; a home or park session suits those who would rather not drive in late pregnancy.

Behind the camera is Kaushik Bathia, established in Northwood since 2001, FBIPP and FMPA, with five European Kodak Gold Awards.
