A church sets you under stone and coloured glass, which tint everything and will not be argued with. A marquee behaves the opposite way. Daylight makes it a lightbox; darkness makes it a black tent, and the changeover hour is the one to spend outdoors. Later, the speeches and then the dancing happen under lighting somebody chose for dinner service. Our own lights go up there, low enough that nobody in the room looks up at them.
