Cliveden House package prices and exclusive use

Cliveden House publishes per-person prices for its non-exclusive packages, with no validity dates or season stated on the page: the Romantic package for 8 to 16 guests at £510 per adult, the Intimate package for 10 to 24 guests at £380 per adult, and the Classic package for 30 to 60 guests at £330 per adult, each with children at £100. Packages include a midweek menu tasting, a private dining room, two reception drinks each, a three-course wedding breakfast with coffee and petit fours, and half a bottle of house wine per person.

Exclusive-use prices are not published. Exclusive use takes up to 130 guests for the ceremony, reception and wedding breakfast and 180 for the evening party, and includes 47 bedrooms and suites, Spring Cottage, use of the spa and a contribution to the National Trust.

For larger weddings a marquee can be hired on exclusive use, but the seated range is worded inconsistently: the exclusive-use page says "from 121 up to 230 seated guests" and "131 to 250 guests" in the same sentence, and the March 2023 brochure says 130 to 250 seated. Ask the events team for the figure for your layout.

Licensed rooms, where the figures differ

Buckinghamshire Council lists Cliveden House as an approved venue, and the hotel's March 2023 brochure gives its own ceremony figures. Where the two differ, both are shown: the Great Hall 150 (council) and 120 within an exclusive-use wedding (brochure); the French Dining Room 70 (council) and 60, or 80 on exclusive use (brochure); the Lady Astor Suite 60 (council) and 40 (brochure); Spring Cottage 30 (council) and 16 (brochure); and outdoors the Cockerel Pavilion 80 (council) and 60, or 120 on exclusive use (brochure). Both sources give the Cliveden Dining Room 120 and the Boudoir 30. The council also lists the Mountbatten Suite 60, the Library 50, the Sounding Chamber 40 and the Tote Room 10.

The brochure says it is the couple's responsibility to make the legal arrangements, through the Buckinghamshire registration service (01494 475 092). The council states a minimum wait of 28 days after giving notice.

No page we found says whether Hindu, Sikh or Muslim ceremonies, a mandap or a havan are hosted, or whether outside caterers can be used; the recommended-supplier list does include a "Marquees and Caterers" category. Ask the hotel in writing about each of these, and about confetti, before booking.

The photography policy at Cliveden House

The hotel's photography policy matters more here than at most venues: professional photography in the public rooms needs authorisation. Confirm in writing, when you book, which rooms and garden areas are covered for your wedding photographs.

Professional photographyHotel FAQ: staged photoshoots and professional photography, including lighting rigs, are not permitted in the public areas of the house without authorisation, such as for a privately booked event
Recommended suppliersThe hotel publishes a recommended list that includes photography and videography
FlashNot published
DronesNot published by the hotel; the estate is National Trust land, so ask both
ConfettiNot published
Candles and open flameNot published
Finish timeNot published; exclusive use "can continue into the early hours"

Where a rule is shown as not published, ask the venue in writing before the day.

Suites and Spring Cottage for getting ready

The hotel names suites rather than a bridal preparation room: the Lady Astor Suite, Prince of Wales Suite and Inchiquin Suite, plus Deluxe and Junior Suites. Exclusive use brings 47 bedrooms and suites and Spring Cottage, a three-bedroom retreat on the Thames that sleeps up to eight, with a covered porch over the river and a private garden. Ask which suite is set aside for getting ready and from what time.

Authorised areas, the estate gardens and the river

  • Agree in writing where photographs may be taken: the hotel restricts professional photography in its public areas.
  • The estate's gardens include the formal Parterre, Rose Garden, Water Garden and Long Garden, but the hotel publishes no wedding photography rules for the National Trust gardens; ask before planning portraits there.
  • Spring Cottage sits on the riverbank with a private boat mooring and a lake in its garden, a quieter setting for an intimate ceremony.
  • Two short steps lead into the main hotel, with portable ramps available, and there is a lift to the upper floors.

A leased hotel on a National Trust estate

Cliveden House sits within the National Trust's Cliveden estate of 375 acres of woodland, gardens and riverside, with the Parterre, Rose Garden, Water Garden, Long Garden and Cliveden Maze among its named features. The house itself is leased as a luxury hotel and is generally not open to National Trust visitors.

Taplow, Burnham and the drive to Cliveden

Cliveden House and Spa, Taplow SL6 0JF. The hotel's FAQ gives Taplow station as about 4 miles away; the National Trust gives Taplow as 2.5 miles and Burnham as 3 miles, both on the Paddington to Reading line, with taxi ranks at both, and advises against walking. Wedding viewings are by appointment only. We travel to Cliveden from our Northwood studio.

Valet parking at Cliveden House

Parking at the house is free for Cliveden House guests and run as valet: keys go to the Concierge team. Wheelchair users can be dropped at the front door. No space count is published, so ask how a large evening arrival is handled.

Cliveden House wedding photography, frequently asked questions

How much does a wedding at Cliveden House cost?

The hotel publishes per-person prices for packages of up to 60 guests, without stating a season or validity date: the Romantic package for 8 to 16 guests at £510 per adult, the Intimate for 10 to 24 at £380 and the Classic for 30 to 60 at £330, with children at £100. Each includes reception drinks, a three-course wedding breakfast and half a bottle of wine per person. Exclusive-use prices are not published, so ask the events team for a quote.

How many guests can Cliveden House take for a wedding?

On exclusive use, up to 130 guests for the ceremony, reception and wedding breakfast, and up to 180 for the evening party, all year round. Packages without exclusive use run to 60 guests. A marquee can be hired on exclusive use for larger numbers, but the venue's own wording is inconsistent, giving ranges of 121 to 230 and 131 to 250 on one page and 130 to 250 in its 2023 brochure, so confirm the seated figure for your layout.

Can a photographer take pictures anywhere at Cliveden House?

Not without arrangement. The hotel's FAQ says staged photoshoots and professional photography, including lighting rigs and equipment, are not permitted in the public areas of the house unless authorised, for example for a privately booked event. The hotel publishes no wedding-specific rules on flash or drones, and none for the National Trust gardens. Confirm in writing which rooms and outdoor areas are covered for your wedding photographs before the day.

Does Cliveden House host Asian or Indian weddings?

The hotel does not say. No official page found states whether Hindu, Sikh or Muslim ceremonies, a mandap or a havan are hosted, and the food and drink page mentions no halal, vegetarian or Asian menus, only the in-house chefs and a menu tasting. Its recommended suppliers include a Marquees and Caterers category. If you are planning an Asian wedding there, ask the events team in writing about the ceremony, the fire, the catering and the baraat.

Is there parking at Cliveden House?

Yes. The FAQ says parking at the house is free for Cliveden House guests and is handled by valet, with keys handed to the Concierge team, and wheelchair users can be dropped at the front door. No capacity is published. By train, the hotel gives Taplow station as about four miles away, while the National Trust gives 2.5 miles to Taplow and 3 to Burnham, both on the Paddington to Reading line, with taxis at each and no recommended walking route.
