The Grove Hertfordshire Wedding Photographer

The Grove names Madhu's as its specialist Asian caterer for large events including Indian weddings, and Madhu's also runs a restaurant, Madhu's at The Grove, inside the Mansion. For a large Asian wedding that settles one of the biggest questions before you start.

The scale is there too: Amber is the largest of 16 event spaces on a 300-acre estate. What The Grove publishes on price and room capacity

The Grove publishes no wedding prices or packages: its weddings page invites you to enquire, so ask for a written proposal for your date and guest numbers. What it does publish is room capacity, which is the first number most couples need.

Amber: up to 450 guests. An earlier brochure gave up to 420 for dinner and dancing, so confirm the figure for your layout.
Cedar Suite: up to 166, with floor-to-ceiling glass over the Formal Gardens.
Ivory: up to 120, with a private entrance and terrace.
Cinnamon: up to 100, linked directly to Amber.
Potting Shed: up to 72 for an evening party, in the Walled Garden.
Silk and Ochre 48, the Garden Room 30 and Donneraile 28 for smaller gatherings.

Madhu's, the ceremony spaces, and what The Grove does not publish

What The Grove publishes:

On catering: "We also partner with carefully selected kosher caterers and specialist Asian caterer, Madhu's for large events including Indian weddings, and other celebrations."
Its terms state that the swimming pools cannot be used at events where alcohol is served.
Its FAQs say the Walled Garden, with the beach and outdoor pool, is reserved for hotel residents for visitors who are not attending an event.

The current weddings page does not describe ceremony spaces. The venue's events brochure named the sunken garden in the Formal Gardens for both civil and religious ceremonies, but that brochure could not be read for this update, so treat the ceremony location as a question for the events team.

Put these to the venue and get the answers in writing:

Which rooms and garden spaces are licensed for civil ceremonies, for how many guests, and what is the wet-weather alternative?
Is a mandap allowed, and where? Madhu's own listing mentions a mandap; The Grove publishes no mandap statement.
Is open flame permitted for a havan or agni?
How is a baraat handled: which entrance, what route, what time?
May you bring a caterer other than the named partners, and what is the policy on alcohol and corkage?
What time must music and the bar finish?

Getting ready at The Grove: 214 bedrooms, no named bridal room

The Grove does not name a bridal suite or a getting-ready room on its wedding pages. It publishes 214 bedrooms, most reached by lift, and two fully accessible bedrooms in the West Wing. In its meetings copy, Cinnamon is described as directly linked to Amber and able to double as a green room or preparation area during big events. Ask the events team which suite or room can be held for preparation on your date, and whether Cinnamon is available as a dressing space for a large Amber reception.

Shooting a 300-acre estate: distances, light and the Mansion

Planning notes we would work through with you:

Amber has floor-to-ceiling French windows and the Cedar Suite floor-to-ceiling glass over the Formal Gardens. Glass that size gives strong daylight near the windows that drops off fast further in. Check the room at the hour your ceremony starts, not the hour you view it.
Ivory has a private entrance and terrace, useful for keeping your arrivals clear of another event.
The estate is 300 acres. Portrait spots can sit far from your reception room, so build the walk into the timeline or arrange transport.
The venue states some Mansion areas are not fully accessible. If an older relative must be in a group shot, pick a level-entry spot.
The Cedar Suite and Ivory each have a private terrace: a level outdoor spot for family groups a few steps from the room.
Drop-off is available at every entrance, so a car arrival can be covered close to the door. With valet parking on offer, agree who holds the car keys before the first vehicle pulls up.

The Clarendon Mansion, 16 event spaces and 214 bedrooms

The Mansion was the seat of the Earls of Clarendon. The venue's accessibility guide describes it as a Grade II listed building; earlier sources give Grade II*. It now holds 214 bedrooms and 16 event spaces on a 300-acre estate, with Formal Gardens, a Walled Garden containing an outdoor pool, beach, kitchen garden, tennis courts and topiary, woodland trails created with The Wildlife Trust, and an 18-hole championship golf course. It hosted the 2009 G20 London summit, the 2013 Bilderberg conference and the 2019 NATO Leaders' Meeting; the golf course held the 2006 WGC-American Express Championship and the 2016 British Masters. The Cedar Suite is named after the 200-year-old cedar trees outside it.

Watford Junction, the M25 and two postcodes

The Grove, Chandler's Cross, Hertfordshire WD3 4TG. The sat-nav postcode is different, WD17 3NL, so put both on the invitation. Watford Junction is the nearest station, a five-minute drive according to the venue, with fast trains to London Euston. We travel to The Grove from our Northwood studio and plan the morning around your preparation location.

Parking at The Grove: what is and is not published

The Grove does not publish parking terms for weddings. Complimentary car parking appears on its site only as an inclusion in the day and overnight delegate packages for meetings. What its accessibility guide does publish:

Dedicated accessible parking spaces.
Vehicle drop-off points at all entrances to the hotel.
Valet parking and luggage porterage if required.

Ask the events team how many spaces are available for wedding guests, whether guests who are not staying pay, and where coaches can stop.

Yes. Amber is the largest space, given on the venue's spaces page as up to 450 guests, although an earlier brochure put it at up to 420 for dinner and dancing, so confirm the number for your layout. Can you have a religious ceremony or a havan at The Grove?

The current weddings page does not describe ceremony spaces at all. The venue's events brochure has named the sunken garden in the Formal Gardens for civil and religious ceremonies, but confirm with the events team which spaces are licensed and for how many. On fire and processions the venue is silent: nothing published says whether open flame is allowed for a havan or agni, or how a baraat would be routed. A mandap appears on Madhu's own listing rather than in The Grove's copy. Get written answers on all three before you book decor.
