No. Passport photos are a walk-in service with no appointment needed. Just pop into our Northwood studio during opening hours and we will have your prints ready in minutes.
A UK passport photo must be 35mm wide by 45mm tall, taken against a plain cream or light grey background, with your face clearly visible, a neutral expression and your mouth closed. Both eyes must be open and uncovered, and no hats or head coverings are allowed unless worn for religious or medical reasons. We check every shot against these requirements before you leave.
Glasses are best removed as the rules require your eyes to be clearly visible with no glare or reflection; if you keep them on we angle the lighting to avoid glare and make sure the frames do not cover your eyes. Head coverings are only permitted when worn for religious or medical reasons, and your face must still be fully visible from the bottom of your chin to the top of your forehead.
Yes. We are experienced at photographing babies and children to the passport specification, with the patience to get a compliant, eyes-open shot even for the very young. No appointment is needed, so you can simply walk in.

The specification
What makes a UK passport photo compliant
The rules are stricter than most people expect, and a small mistake means His Majesty's Passport Office rejects the whole application. We know the standard inside out and check your photo against every point before you leave.
A UK and EU passport photo is 45mm tall by 35mm wide, printed on plain photographic paper against a light grey or cream background with no shadows behind you. Your expression should be neutral with your mouth closed, so no smiling, and both eyes need to be open and clearly visible with nothing covering them. If you wear glasses we position the lighting to avoid glare and reflections, and we make sure the frames do not cover your eyes. Your head and shoulders should be centred and facing the camera, with no hats or head coverings unless worn for religious or medical reasons.
The photo also has to be recent, taken within the last month, so an old image will not do. We take a fresh photograph, review it on screen, and only print once we are happy it meets every requirement. You leave with printed prints in hand and, where your application needs it, the digital photo or code for the online service; we supply both so you are covered whichever way you apply.
For UK online passport applications you upload a digital image, so we email or supply the correctly sized digital file alongside your prints. Physical prints are still worth having for forms, records and countersignatories, which is why we include both as standard rather than charging separately.
Many other countries set their own sizes and background colours for passport photos, and we take these to specification on request. Just tell us the country when you arrive and we will size the photo correctly, so bring the guidance if you have it and we will match it exactly.

Babies, children and other photo ID
Photographing a baby to the passport standard takes patience, and it is something we do regularly. For very young children we lay them on a plain sheet or use a supportive backdrop so the background stays clean, and we wait for a calm, eyes-open moment rather than rushing the shot. With older children we keep it quick and relaxed so the expression stays neutral and natural.
It is not only passports either. We take compliant photos for driving licences, national ID cards, Oyster and travel passes, bus passes, gun and shotgun licences, and a wide range of other documents that each have their own size and layout. If you are unsure what your form needs, bring it along and we will sort it out.
You are welcome to walk in at our Northwood studio during opening hours; there is no need to book ahead. We take the photo, check it, print it and hand you the digital copy while you wait, usually in a matter of minutes, so it is easy to fit around a shopping trip or a school run.
