Photo Scanning & Digitising in London

High-quality scanning of prints, slides and negatives, so a lifetime of memories is digitised, preserved and safe forever.

Preserve the past

Rescue your memories from the loft

Boxes of old prints, carousels of slides and strips of negatives fade, stick and get lost. Digitising them protects those memories for good, and makes them easy to share with family, print again or turn into a gift.

We scan prints, slides and negatives at high quality, capturing the detail and colour of the originals so the digital copies do them justice.

What we scan

From single prints to whole collections

We scan loose prints, 35mm negatives and slides, and larger medium-format film, all at high resolution so the fine detail and true colour of the original are captured properly. If you have whole albums or boxes of old photographs, we can work through the lot rather than asking you to pick out a favoured few, and we handle each item carefully as we go. During scanning we gently clean away dust and reduce surface scratches, so the digital copies look tidy without losing the character of the picture.

It is not only photographs. We also copy and digitise framed pictures that are too precious to take apart, along with certificates, letters and other documents you want kept safe. Where the date or occasion is written on the back or in the album, we name and date the files to match, so your collection arrives sorted rather than as an unlabelled heap of images.

Your finished scans are delivered on a USB drive or as a download, ready to back up, share with family and reprint whenever you like.

Why do it now

Preserve fragile originals before they fade

Prints, slides and negatives do not last forever. Colours shift and fade, negatives grow brittle, and slides can be spoiled by damp or mould long before anyone thinks to check the box in the loft. Digitising a collection captures those images while they are still in good condition, so a house move, a spill or a slow chemical fade can no longer take the memories with it.

For larger collections we offer bulk discounts, which makes it far easier to preserve a whole family archive in one go rather than a handful of pictures at a time. We will let you know the turnaround when we see what you have, and because we are a local London studio you can drop everything off and collect it in person, so your irreplaceable originals are never posted away.

Once a collection is digitised it becomes far easier to enjoy. You can send a grandparent's wedding pictures to relatives on the other side of the world, put together a slideshow for a birthday or anniversary, or simply keep a backed-up copy safe in case anything ever happens to the prints themselves. The originals stay with you, and the digital versions do the travelling.

If any scanned image would benefit from repair, we can pair the work with our photo restoration and reprinting service.

Quality that lasts

What quality will my scans be?

We scan every item at a high resolution chosen to suit the original, so the fine detail, texture and true colour of your prints, slides and negatives are captured properly rather than flattened into a quick, low-quality copy. Film in particular holds far more detail than most people expect, and scanning it well means you can reprint an old negative much larger than the original print without it looking soft. During the process we gently clean away surface dust and reduce light scratches, so the digital copies look tidy while keeping the character of the picture. Because the files are high resolution, they are equally suited to sharing on a phone, printing in an album or producing a large framed enlargement later on. If you have a mix of formats and are not sure what will scan best, bring a sample in and we will show you the difference before committing to a whole collection.

Simple drop-off

How to bring your photos in for scanning

Bringing your collection in is simple: just drop it off in person at our studio at The Broadway, 21 Joel St, Northwood HA6 1NU during opening hours, with no appointment needed. There is no need to sort or organise anything beforehand, as loose prints, full albums, boxes of slides and strips of negatives can all come exactly as they are, and we will go through them with you. We are open Monday to Saturday from 10:30am to 6pm and Sunday from 1pm to 6pm, and because we are a local London studio you drop off and collect in person rather than posting irreplaceable originals away. When you arrive we will look at what you have, explain how we will scan it and let you know the likely turnaround for your particular collection. If you would like to talk it through first, call 07956 505383 or use our contact page. Once digitised, faded or damaged images can be improved with our photo restoration service and reprinted through enlargement and framing; see all our studio services for more.
