Bring them back to life

Restoring the photos that matter most

Old photographs fade, crack, tear and discolour with time, and often they are the only copy that exists. Photo restoration carefully repairs that damage, rebuilding missing detail and reviving colour so a precious image can be enjoyed and shared again.

We restore everything from a faded portrait of a grandparent to a torn and water-damaged family photograph, working from a high-quality scan so your fragile original is never put at risk.

This is a walk-in service. Bring your photograph into the studio at The Broadway, 21 Joel St, Northwood HA6 1NU, and we will assess it with you in person and give a free, no-obligation quote.

Yes. Once restored, we can reprint your image to gallery quality and frame it ready to hang or give as a gift.

Just pop in. This is a walk-in service at our studio on The Broadway, 21 Joel St, Northwood HA6 1NU. Bring your photograph during opening hours, Monday to Saturday 10:30am to 6pm or Sunday 1pm to 6pm, and we will assess it with you and give a free quote on the spot.

Yes. We can add gentle, period-true colour to a black-and-white photograph, or convert a colour image to a classic black-and-white or sepia finish. The tones are kept soft and natural rather than bright and artificial, so the picture still feels of its time.

It is one of the most personal gifts you can give. A restored and reframed family photograph makes a treasured present for a milestone birthday, anniversary or Christmas, and a dignified memorial image for a service of remembrance. Bring the original into the studio and we will talk through the options.

How it works

Careful repair, done by hand

Every restoration is worked by hand and eye rather than left to an automatic filter. We rebuild tears, creases and deep scratches, clean up water marks and the brown spotting left by damp and mould, and lift away the fading and yellow-orange discolouration that old prints pick up over the years. Where a corner has broken off, a face has flaked away or part of the image has simply gone, we redraw the missing detail using the surrounding photograph and any other pictures of the same person as a guide.

We can work from the original print or from a scan, and either way your original is never altered. All of the work happens on a digital copy, so the photograph you hand over comes back to you exactly as it was. If you would like a black-and-white picture brought into gentle colour we can do that too, keeping the tones soft and true to the period rather than bright and artificial.

Before we make any prints we send you a preview of the finished image so you can check it and ask for small changes. Once you are happy, the restored photograph is supplied to you as a digital file and as fresh prints, and we can frame it ready to hang if you wish.

Occasions

The photographs families ask us to save

Most of the photographs that reach us mean far more than the paper they are printed on. They are family heirlooms handed down through generations, the one surviving picture of a grandparent, or a wedding photograph that has spent decades in an album. When a print like that starts to crack or fade, restoring it keeps the memory whole for the people who come after.

We are often asked to prepare a memorial photograph for a funeral or a service of remembrance, where a clear, dignified image matters and time is short. Restored and reprinted pictures also make deeply personal anniversary and birthday gifts, giving a treasured old photograph a second life that the whole family can share.

There is no single kind of photograph that is beyond help. We have brought back sun-bleached prints from the 1970s, sepia portraits from a century ago, and colour snapshots that had turned almost entirely orange. Some pictures need little more than a gentle clean and a lift in contrast, while others take hours of patient rebuilding, and we will always tell you honestly which of the two yours is likely to be.

Whatever the reason, we treat each photograph with patience and respect, and we are happy to talk through what can realistically be achieved before any work begins.
