Visa Photo ID FAQs

No. Visa and ID photos are a walk-in service with no appointment needed. Just pop into our Northwood studio during opening hours and we will have your photos ready in minutes.

We take visa and ID photographs to a wide range of country-specific requirements. Tell us the destination country and we will size the photo to the correct specification, background and head position. Bringing any official guidance with you helps us match it exactly.

United States visa and Green Card photos must be 2 by 2 inches, which is 51 by 51mm, on a plain white background with the head sized precisely within the frame. We print to this exact specification while you wait, so your application is not held up.

Yes. We regularly take Indian visa, OCI and PAN card photographs for the local community, each to their own size, background and head-position rules. Schengen, Chinese, Australian, Canadian and many other national specifications are available too.

Yes, where your application needs one. We provide both printed photos and a digital file in the required format and resolution for online visa applications, so you are ready whether the embassy or portal asks for prints, an upload, or both.

We are at The Broadway, 21 Joel St, Northwood HA6 1NU, a short walk from Northwood Underground station on the Metropolitan line. We are open Monday to Saturday from 10:30am to 6pm and Sunday from 1pm to 6pm, and no appointment is needed for visa or ID photos.

Sizes by country

Visa and ID photos for almost anywhere

Every country sets its own rules for size, background and head position, and they change from time to time. We keep up to date with the specifications so your photo is taken correctly for the destination you are applying to.

United States visa and Green Card photos are 2 by 2 inches, which is 51mm square, on a plain white background with the head sized precisely within the frame. Indian visa, OCI and PAN card photos are also 2 by 2 inches with their own head-size and background rules, and we take these regularly for the local community. Schengen visas for travel across Europe use the 35 by 45mm European standard, while Chinese, Australian and Canadian visas each have their own dimensions and background shades.

Biometric requirements differ too, so the position of your head, the neutral expression and the way your face is measured within the frame vary from one country to the next. We photograph to the correct biometric standard for your destination rather than using a single generic template, which is what keeps applications from being sent back.

You get both printed photos and a digital file, and where an application is submitted online we can email the digital image to you in the required format and resolution. That means you are ready whether the embassy or portal asks for prints, an upload, or both.

If your country is not listed above, please still ask; we work to a wide range of international specifications and will size your photo correctly once you tell us where you are applying. Bringing any official guidance with you helps us match it to the letter.

More than visas

Professional ID, passes and family photos

Alongside visas we take clean, professional headshots for company ID cards, staff passes, security and licensing badges, student cards and membership documents. These are shot to whatever size and layout your organisation or issuing body requires, with even lighting and a neutral background so they look consistent and credible.

We photograph babies, children and whole families for their visa and ID photos too, with the patience to capture a compliant, eyes-open shot even for the very young. If several members of the family need photos for the same trip, we can do them together in one visit.

Everything is available on a walk-in basis at our Northwood studio during opening hours, with no appointment needed. We take the photo, check it against the specification, print it and provide the digital copy while you wait, so you can carry on with your day and get your application moving.

Visa, ID and professional photos for all ages in London

Before you visit

What to bring for your visa or ID photo

The most useful thing to bring is the name of the country you are applying to, and any official photo guidance from the embassy, consulate or online portal if you have it, as this lets us match the exact size, background shade and head position required. If a previous photo was rejected, bring the rejection notice too, since it usually spells out precisely what needs to change. There is nothing else to prepare: you do not need to book, print anything or fill in a form first. For the photo itself, wear ordinary everyday clothing that contrasts with the plain background, keep to a neutral expression with your mouth closed, and remove hats or head coverings unless they are worn for religious reasons. We will guide you through the rest when you arrive, and if you are unsure of the specification we will look it up with you. Take a look at our full range of studio services if you need more than a photo.
