Apart from the groups nothing is posed, whether at a hotel wedding at Great Fosters or a register office ceremony at Surrey's Weybridge office in Rylston, Oatlands Drive, which holds indoor ceremonies for up to 48 guests. Egham has Great Fosters, a Grade I listed 16th-century mansion licensed for ceremonies of up to 160 guests, and the Victorian Founder's Building at Royal Holloway with its chapel completed in 1886, while Fairmont Windsor Park nearby takes larger hotel receptions; we would plan coverage for civil, religious or fusion weddings in any of them. We work out beforehand where to stand for the confetti, the first dance and the speeches, so those moments are covered without fuss. Royal Holloway's Founder's Building is one of the most photogenic wedding backdrops in Surrey, a vast symmetrical facade that needs distance and a wide lens to do it justice, which means knowing where to stand before the guests spill out. Great Fosters and, in nearby Virginia Water, Wentworth Club are other licensed choices. The Runnymede meadows, managed by the National Trust and the most likely place where Magna Carta was sealed in 1215, are open, level and quiet, which suits both a full family group and an unhurried couple walk at the end of the afternoon. Egham railway station lies on the Waterloo to Reading line about 21 miles from London Waterloo, and junction 13 of the M25 is nearby, so guests arrive from two very different directions. Great Fosters is itself a hotel, which helps guests who want to stay overnight.

A two-day wedding without a religious frame is still two jobs. A welcome dinner one evening and a ceremony the next means the same faces twice, and the second set has to look different or the album repeats itself. We treat that evening as coverage rather than a warm-up, and stop early enough that the next morning is not compromised.
