On the morning we would keep to the edges of the room for the tying of the safa and the final adjustments to the saree, leaving you space before the ceremony. The mandap might stand in the Tithe Barn or the Orangery at Great Fosters, or in the Founder's Dining Hall at Royal Holloway, but the mehndi, the sangeet, the baraat and the vidaai are planned with the same care. Then there is pace. Kanyadaan takes seconds, so does the knot at the mangalsutra, and neither is repeatable, so both photographers stand ready before the priest gets there, not once he has. The opposite trap is saptapadi: two people, one circuit, repeated seven times. From a fixed position that returns seven frames differing only in blur. Shifting side, then height, on alternate passes turns the set into a sequence, so the final step does not resemble the first.
