The shape of the county

Surrey in three bands, measured from the Northwood studio

The nearest band is the Thames side of north Surrey. Staines-upon-Thames, in the Borough of Spelthorne, is about 12.4 miles from the studio and is tied to junction 13 of the M25 by the A30. Egham, in Runnymede, is about 13.2 miles away. Further along, the Elmbridge towns of Weybridge, Esher and Cobham sit at roughly 16 to 19 miles, close to where the Wey and the Mole run into the Thames.

The middle band runs from Epsom, about 19.6 miles out, across to Woking at 20.4, Leatherhead at 21.5 and Camberley at 23.2. Woking is the largest of these, a borough of 103,900 people in 2021 whose station is the busiest in Surrey. Camberley, in Surrey Heath, sits close to the borders with Hampshire and Berkshire, so a session there can just as easily take in a family living over the county line.

The southern band lies under the North Downs. Guildford is about 25 miles from Northwood, Dorking 25.8, Reigate 26.7 and Redhill 27.1. Guildford has long been regarded as the county town, yet Surrey County Council has its headquarters at Woodhatch Place in Reigate. This is the part of the county with the chalk hills, Box Hill and the National Trust slopes of Colley Hill and Reigate Hill.

How Kaushik works here

Weddings anywhere in Surrey, sessions wherever you are in it

Weddings are not limited by distance. Kaushik photographs Surrey weddings of every tradition, from a 2 to 18 guest register office ceremony to a multi-day Asian celebration. Wedding photography is from £750, and packages are built around your day. A second photographer, a pre-wedding shoot and a hand-finished album can be added.

For everything else, Kaushik comes to you. A family session might be in your garden in Weybridge, a headshot day in a Leatherhead office, a christening in a Reigate church hall. Families who would rather travel can use the Northwood studio on Joel Street, two minutes from Northwood Hills station on the Metropolitan line. Session prices are given on request by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383.

Because Surrey stretches from 12 miles out to 27, travel matters, and it is handled openly. The cost of getting from Northwood to your town is set out in your written quote, so you see it before you commit to anything.

A county changing shape

Surrey's new councils from 1 April 2027

Surrey's local government is being reorganised. From vesting day, 1 April 2027, a new West Surrey Council replaces Runnymede Borough Council and the county council's services in that area, and a new East Surrey Council takes over across Elmbridge, Epsom and Ewell, Mole Valley, Reigate and Banstead and Tandridge. Guildford Borough Council's own website notes that both new councils are due to launch that April.

For anyone booking a 2027 wedding or a shoot on council land, that means the name on the paperwork may change partway through your planning. If your register office booking, park permission or event licence was arranged before April 2027, it is worth checking which council holds it once the new bodies are running.

Backdrops

Surrey landmarks that work as a backdrop, and the rules that come with them

North Surrey has the river. Staines Bridge, a Grade II listed granite bridge by George Rennie that William IV opened in 1832, carries the Thames Path, and the Runnymede meadows between Egham and Old Windsor, where Magna Carta was most likely sealed in 1215, are partly National Trust land. In Cobham, the Grade II listed Cobham Mill on the River Mole is described as the only fully working watermill left in Surrey.

Further south the backdrops are older and higher. Guildford's High Street is still paved with granite setts and the Guildhall clock case is dated 1683, while the castle gardens opened to the public in 1888. Near Reigate, the post mill on Reigate Heath became a chapel in 1880 and is thought to be the only windmill in England used as a church.

Some places set conditions. Painshill at Cobham asks for a photography licence applied for at least 7 days ahead, even for family or pre-wedding shoots. Epsom and Walton Downs are private land where about 150 racehorses train in the mornings, so the public are asked to visit after noon. Kaushik plans the timing of a shoot around rules like these.

Where next

Where to go next for your part of Surrey

If you are planning a wedding, start with the Surrey wedding photography guide, which covers the three ceremony register offices and the county's venue types, or the Surrey Asian wedding guide for multi-day planning. Parents can go to family photography in Surrey for parks and at-home sessions, or newborn photography in Surrey for the first fortnight.

Each Surrey town also has its own wedding page. North Surrey readers might begin with Staines-upon-Thames or Weybridge; those in the south with Guildford or Reigate. The table below lists every Surrey town with its distance from the studio.

What Kaushik photographs across Surrey

01

Wedding photography across Surrey

Kaushik photographs weddings in every corner of Surrey, from a small ceremony at the Weybridge register office to a full day in the Surrey Hills. Coverage starts from £750 and is built around your timings, with a second photographer, an engagement shoot or a hand-finished album as options. 02

Asian weddings in Surrey

For Asian weddings that run over several days, Kaushik covers each event separately: a mehndi or haldi at home in Woking, a nikah or anand karaj the next morning, a reception in a hotel suite near Epsom or Camberley. Each day gets its own timings and its own line in the quote. Gujarati, Punjabi, Tamil, Hindu, Sikh and Muslim ceremonies are all photographed with the same care.

03

Family photography in Surrey

A family session in Surrey usually happens at your home or in a park near it: the Lammas Recreation Ground by the Thames at Staines, Churchfields in Weybridge, Priory Park in Reigate. Kaushik brings the kit to you, so younger children stay on familiar ground. The nearest towns are about 12 miles from Northwood and the furthest about 27, and the travel for your town is quoted before you book.

Family photography in Surrey
04

Newborn photography at home in Surrey

Newborn photography works well at home, where the baby is warm, fed and in their own surroundings. Kaushik travels to Surrey homes from Egham to Redhill, ideally within the first two weeks, and works at the baby's pace. If you would rather come to the Northwood studio, that is an option too, though you may find staying home easier in the first fortnight.

05

Maternity photoshoots in Surrey

A maternity shoot in Surrey can be at home, in a garden or somewhere open with soft light, such as the meadows at Runnymede or the heath around Lightwater Country Park. Most people book for the later weeks of pregnancy. Kaushik keeps the session short and seated breaks easy, and it pairs naturally with a newborn session a few weeks later at the same address.

06

Couples and pre-wedding shoots in Surrey

A couples shoot is a relaxed hour or two together, often used as a pre-wedding session before a Surrey wedding. The Thames Path at Staines, the castle gardens in Guildford and the slopes above Reigate all give very different looks. If you choose Painshill at Cobham, remember its photography licence needs applying for at least a week ahead.

07

Headshots and corporate headshots in Surrey

For corporate headshots, Kaushik sets up a portable studio in your Surrey office, whether that is a business park in Leatherhead, a town-centre firm in Guildford or a practice in Woking, so staff step out of a meeting for their headshot and go back to work. Individual headshots can be taken at your home, outdoors, or at the Northwood studio.

08

Portrait photography in Surrey

Portraits in Surrey can use the county's own character: the granite setts of Guildford High Street, the 1728 Old Town Hall in Reigate, the riverbank by Cobham Mill. Kaushik meets you at your chosen spot or at home, and lighting is planned around the time of day. A studio portrait in Northwood is available for anyone who prefers a plain backdrop.

Portraits in Surrey
09

Events and christenings in Surrey

Event photography covers birthdays, anniversaries, religious celebrations, company evenings and christenings in Surrey halls, homes, hotels and churches. Kaushik works quietly through the event, covering speeches, family groups and the details. For an evening event in Dorking or Redhill, about 26 to 27 miles from the studio, the travel is quoted in writing alongside the hours you need.

Event photography in Surrey
10

Pet photography in Surrey

Pet photography in Surrey is usually at home or on a local walk. The county's open spaces each have their own dog rules: at Painshill dogs stay on a short fixed lead on the paths, Horsell Common asks for close control on main paths from 1 March to 15 September, and Earlswood Common wants leads around its lakes. Kaushik plans the location around what your dog can do there.

Pet photography in Surrey
11

Commercial and product photography in Surrey

Commercial photography for Surrey businesses covers products, premises, food, interiors and team pictures. Kaushik can photograph on site at your shop, restaurant or office anywhere from Staines to Reigate, or products can be brought or sent to the Northwood studio for clean, consistent shots. Session prices and any travel are given in a written quote.

Planning

Planning around Surrey

01

North Surrey is the short run

Staines-upon-Thames and Egham are about 12 to 13 miles from Northwood, and the Elmbridge towns about 16 to 19, so north Surrey bookings involve the least travel.

02

Three ceremony register offices

Surrey County Council holds register office ceremonies, indoors only, at Guildford, Leatherhead and Weybridge. Offices at Staines, Epsom, Reigate and Camberley handle births and deaths.

03

Painshill needs a licence

Painshill at Cobham asks for a photography licence applied for at least 7 days ahead, including for family and pre-wedding shoots, so leave time before you fix a date.

04

Epsom Downs after noon

Racehorses train on the Epsom and Walton Downs gallops in the mornings, and visitors are asked to come after noon, which suits an afternoon or golden-hour shoot.

Your Surrey travel cost is worked out from Northwood and written into the quote before anything is booked. The amount depends on where in Surrey you are, since the county runs from about 12 miles away at Staines to about 27 at Redhill. You will always see the figure in your quote first.

Yes. Weddings are covered anywhere in Surrey, and family, newborn, portrait and other sessions happen in Dorking, Reigate, Redhill and Guildford too. These towns are about 25 to 27 miles from Northwood, so Kaushik travels to you and the journey is written into your quote.

Wedding photography starts from £750, with bespoke packages for longer or multi-day weddings. Prices for family, newborn, maternity, portrait, headshot, event, pet and commercial sessions are given on request: call or WhatsApp 07956 505383, or use the enquiry form, and say which town you are in.

Yes. The studio is on the Joel Street parade in Northwood Hills, two minutes on foot from Northwood Hills station on the Metropolitan line. You may prefer it for a newborn, portrait or headshot session, or find a session at home simpler. Either works, and you can decide when you enquire.

Much of Surrey's open land, including parts of Runnymede, Box Hill and the slopes of Colley Hill and Reigate Hill, belongs to the National Trust, and some sites such as Painshill set their own photography licence. Kaushik checks the rules for your chosen place when planning the session.

Your photography booking is with Kaushik Bathia Photography and does not change. What may change is the council behind register office or park arrangements, since West Surrey and East Surrey councils take over from 1 April 2027. It is sensible to confirm those details again after that date.
