Book three to six months ahead
A pre-wedding shoot three to six months before the wedding leaves time to use the photos on invitations and still feel relaxed on camera by the day itself.

An engagement or pre-wedding shoot in Surrey, set against a meadow, a canal lock, a watermill or a chalk viewpoint. Kaushik Bathia plans the place and the light; you spend an hour or two together.
The short answer
Surrey gives couples a wide choice within about 12 to 27 miles of Northwood: the Runnymede meadows near Egham, Thames Lock in Weybridge where the Wey Navigation meets the Thames, Cobham Mill on the River Mole, Guildford's cobbled High Street, Reigate Heath and the Salomons Memorial on Box Hill. Painshill at Cobham needs a photography licence at least 7 days ahead. The travel from Northwood to your chosen spot appears in your written quote.
Our usual session area is within about 20 miles of the studio. Further out in Surrey, sessions are by arrangement, with travel quoted in writing before you book.
I went the studio for the photoshoot and Mr Batia is proffessional, courteous ,efficient and cheerful. I love my photos and will come again. Highly recommend.
Kaushik has been absolutely fantastic!! I called him to book for a photoshoot session for my parents anniversary, last minute with just one day in advance. he was super responsive and was able to accommodate. He was also understanding when they were running late. Even more impressive is that he put my parents at ease and was able to get great shots, its their first photoshoot and it turned out great!
Kaushik did a great job in taking both formal and informal portrait photos. He is an enthusiastic professional photographer who made me feel at ease. The photographs were excellent and have been greatly admired.
Why a couples shoot
If you are not used to being photographed together, a couples photoshoot helps. An hour in a quiet Surrey setting shows you how Kaushik works, how he directs, and which of your angles you prefer, so on the wedding day you already know what to do when the camera turns your way.
It also gives you pictures for a save-the-date card, a guest book or the welcome sign at the reception. If you are planning a Surrey wedding, the shoot can be added as an extra to the wedding booking, which is often simpler than arranging it on its own.

The Thames side
North Surrey is the closest part of the county to Northwood, about 12 to 16 miles away. The Runnymede meadows between Egham and Old Windsor offer open grass and wide sky, and the slopes of Coopers Hill hold the John F. Kennedy Memorial, Hew Locke's twelve bronze chairs called The Jurors and Mark Wallinger's Writ in Water. The bronze chairs make a playful setting for a couple who want something less formal.
In Staines, the granite bridge by George Rennie, opened by William IV in 1832, carries the Thames Path and gives a strong line of arches behind you. At Weybridge, the National Trust's Wey and Godalming Navigations join the Thames at Thames Lock, where the towpath, lock gates and moored boats give a quieter waterside look.
Elmbridge and the Mole valley
Cobham Mill is a Grade II listed early 19th-century watermill on the River Mole, restored as a working museum and described as the only surviving fully working watermill in Surrey. Its brick and timber, with the river running past, suit a couple who like texture and warm colour.
Painshill, also at Cobham, is an 18th-century landscape garden with the Temple of Bacchus, a Gothic Tower, the Hermitage and a Ruined Abbey among its settings. It asks for a licence for any shoot, including pre-wedding sessions, applied for at least 7 days ahead, so this is a location to decide on early. Kaushik will tell you what is needed once you have chosen a date.

The Downs and the old towns
For a bigger view, the Salomons Memorial on Box Hill is 172 metres up and looks out over Dorking, and about half of the hill belongs to the National Trust. The Cotmandene in Dorking is common land with its own outlook across the town to Box Hill and Ranmore. Late afternoon light on the chalk slopes is soft and flattering.
Reigate Heath brings heather, acid grassland and a post mill that became a chapel in 1880, thought to be the only windmill in England used as a church. Guildford offers a town alternative: the High Street is still paved with granite setts, the Guildhall clock case is dated 1683, and the castle gardens around the 11th-century keep have been public gardens since 1888.
Asian pre-wedding shoots
If you are planning an Asian wedding in Surrey, you can have a pre-wedding shoot in traditional or fusion outfits, sometimes with a second look in western clothes. Bring the outfit change in a garment bag and plan for somewhere to change: a café, a car or a family home near the location works.
Kaushik will suggest settings that suit the colours of your clothes. Rich reds and golds sit well against the brick of Cobham Mill or the green of the Runnymede meadows; pastels look calm against the water at Thames Lock. If the pictures are for a mehndi or sangeet welcome board, leave about six weeks for editing and printing.

Planning
A pre-wedding shoot three to six months before the wedding leaves time to use the photos on invitations and still feel relaxed on camera by the day itself.
Painshill asks for a photography licence applied for at least 7 days ahead, even for engagement sessions, so settle the date first.
Box Hill and Colley Hill face open sky. An evening shoot about an hour before sunset gives low, warm light on the chalk.
Racehorses train on the Epsom and Walton Downs gallops in the mornings, and the public are asked to visit after noon.
These Surrey landmarks and open spaces make good couples settings. Check access, opening times and any photography rules before the day.

Town by town
Every Surrey town in the table is listed with its distance from the Northwood studio. Use it to judge how far a shoot at your chosen place sits from the studio.
Good to know
Most sessions run for one to two hours. That leaves time to walk between two or three spots at one location, such as the riverbank, the mill and a quiet lane, without rushing or tiring yourselves out.
Yes, if they are close. Runnymede and Staines Bridge are near each other, as are Reigate Heath and Priory Park. Two locations far apart, such as Egham and Dorking, are better split across two sessions.
Yes. Painshill asks for a licence for commercial and non-commercial shoots, including pre-wedding and family sessions, applied for at least 7 days ahead. Kaushik will tell you what the application needs once you choose a date.
Wear clothes you are comfortable in that suit each other without matching exactly. Plain colours and soft textures work better than large logos. Bring a second outfit if you would like two looks, and flat shoes for walking.
An engagement or pre-wedding shoot is an optional extra that can be added to a wedding package. Your quote will show it as a separate line, along with the travel from Northwood to the Surrey location you choose.
A couples session is priced on request by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383. Tell Kaushik where you would like the shoot and roughly when, and the written quote will set out the session and the travel.
Yes. The studio on Joel Street, two minutes from Northwood Hills station, suits couples who want clean portraits on a plain backdrop, or a back-up if the Surrey weather turns.
