Pick a park near home
A park ten minutes from your house means less time in the car with tired children, and more energy left for the pictures themselves.

Family photography across Surrey, at your home, in your garden or in a park near you. Kaushik Bathia travels from the Northwood studio, so the children stay on ground they know.
The short answer
Almost anywhere near home. Kaushik Bathia comes to you for family photos across Surrey: your house and garden, or a local open space such as the Lammas Recreation Ground by the Thames at Staines, Priory Park in Reigate or Stoke Park in Guildford. Staines is about 12 miles from the Northwood studio and Reigate about 27, and travel is set out in your written quote. Prices are given on request.
Our usual session area is within about 20 miles of the studio. Further out in Surrey, sessions are by arrangement, with travel quoted in writing before you book.
…I felt the session was flexible and took into account the limited attention span of a 5 year old child! We had numerous photos taken of us, separately and together in three different outfits. We were very happy with the results and found it difficult to shortlist our favourites from soo many amazing photos. I would highly recommend them.
We had a fun and relaxing family photoshoot. Kaushik managed to make us all at ease and smile, especially our 1 yr old son. He was very efficient, professional and friendly. We viewed the beautiful images promptly, without any pressurised selling. Can't wait to receive the photos. Thanks for the great photoshoot!
Kaushik was great when he took photos of our wedding, and was equally great when doing a family studio session, involving entertaining 8 children (ages 0 up to 11).
North Surrey
The Thames towns are the nearest part of Surrey to the studio, and they have the river. The Lammas Recreation Ground at Staines is a riverside family park with a large picnic field, play areas, a summer splash park and a café with boat hire. Just downstream, Laleham Park on Shepperton Road has a playground and parking, which helps when you are carrying a baby bag and a toddler.
Around Egham, Runnymede Pleasure Grounds on Windsor Road has parking, toilets and a paddling pool, though barbecues are not allowed. Englefield Green has a large village green with a play area and a cricket green, and the Runnymede meadows nearby, partly owned by the National Trust, give wide open grass for children to run on.
In Elmbridge, Churchfields Recreation Ground in Weybridge has a splash pad and a wildflower meadow, and Brooklands Community Park on Sopwith Drive has natural play areas and a picnic area. Near Esher, Claremont Landscape Garden has a turfed amphitheatre above its lake.

West Surrey
West Surrey is heath country. Horsell Common, on the edge of Woking, is a 355-hectare open space where H. G. Wells set the first Martian landing in The War of the Worlds; dogs need close control on its main paths from 1 March to 15 September. Brookwood Country Park lies south of Knaphill on the north bank of the Basingstoke Canal.
Around Camberley, Frimley Lodge Park sits beside the Basingstoke Canal with a miniature railway, a community garden, play areas and a café, which makes it easy to keep small children happy between pictures. Lightwater Country Park is mostly heathland with ponds, woodland and meadows. Both are about 23 miles from Northwood.
South and east Surrey
Guildford's Stoke Park is the town's largest, 52 hectares of rolling grassland with views across the town and a rose garden; dogs must be on a lead there. The castle gardens, open to the public since 1888, have floral displays around the 11th-century keep and a life-size statue from Alice Through the Looking Glass, which children tend to want in the picture.
Around Dorking, the Cotmandene looks across the town to Box Hill and Ranmore, and the Glory Woods are reached on foot from the town centre. In Reigate, Priory Park has lakes, a sunken garden and a café, and Earlswood Common between Redhill and Reigate has two large lakes. Redhill's Memorial Park on London Road has a playground and a sensory garden.
Closer in, Nonsuch Park between Cheam and Ewell holds the site of Henry VIII's Nonsuch Palace and formal gardens kept by volunteers, and Epsom Common has been a Local Nature Reserve since 2001.

At home
Kaushik arrives at your home with lights and backdrops if you want indoor pictures, and goes on to the garden or a nearby park if the weather allows. A session usually starts with relaxed pictures of everyone together while the children are fresh, then moves on to smaller groups and individual portraits. Nobody needs to sit still for long.
Because Surrey is 12 to 27 miles from the Northwood studio, the journey is part of the booking. Travel from Northwood is set out in your written quote, and session prices are given on request by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383. If you would rather come to the studio, it is on Joel Street, two minutes from Northwood Hills station.
For a home session, a tidy corner and a window with soft light are worth more than a whole house cleared. Kaushik will tell you which room works once he sees it.
Ages and seasons
Babies and toddlers do well at home or in a park close to it, with a nap planned around the session. School-age children enjoy places with something to do, like the Frimley Lodge miniature railway or the splash park at Staines in summer. Teenagers and grandparents often prefer a quieter setting, such as a garden or a walk along the river.
Spring and early autumn give the softest outdoor light in Surrey's parks, and summer evenings suit the Thames towns. Winter sessions move indoors more often. For clothes, choose two or three colours that sit well together, avoid big logos, and bring a spare top for anyone likely to end up in a puddle or a paddling pool.

Permissions
Painshill at Cobham asks for a photography licence for family sessions as well as commercial shoots, applied for at least 7 days ahead; dogs there must stay on a short fixed lead on the paths. Epsom and Walton Downs are private land, and because racehorses use the gallops in the mornings, visitors are asked to come after noon. Kaushik checks these conditions before confirming a location, and if a dog is coming, the pet photography page has more. See also family photography for how sessions work, or the Surrey photographer page for every service in the county.
Planning
A park ten minutes from your house means less time in the car with tired children, and more energy left for the pictures themselves.
The Lammas Recreation Ground at Staines has a summer splash park, so bring a towel and a change of clothes if it is part of the plan.
If you want Painshill's landscape garden at Cobham, its photography licence has to be applied for at least 7 days before the session.
Surrey towns are about 12 to 27 miles from Northwood, and the travel for your session is set out in writing before you confirm.
