The short answer

When should I book a maternity photoshoot in Surrey?

Most maternity sessions in Surrey are photographed between 28 and 34 weeks, when the bump shows clearly and getting about is still comfortable. Book a few weeks ahead so your date lands inside that window. Kaushik comes to your home, garden or a nearby park anywhere from Staines-upon-Thames to Redhill, or you can visit the Northwood studio. Session prices are given on request, and travel from Northwood is set out in your written quote.

Our usual session area is within about 20 miles of the studio. Further out in Surrey, sessions are by arrangement, with travel quoted in writing before you book.

Great service! Kaushik was able to capture some beautiful shots for my maternity baby and bump shoot. He was very helpful and guided me with the poses throughout the shoot. I love the pictures & I’m looking forward to having the final edits!

We’re so glad we chose Kaushik as our photographer for maternity shoot —he was absolutely fantastic. On the day, he made us feel completely at ease, and the photos turned out superb. He was incredibly accommodating with all our requests and his attentiveness and personable nature were exactly what we hoped for in a photographer. Thank you, Kaushik!

I booked the family portrait for my family and it was a wonderful experience. Kaushik is such a great photographer, able to coax a smile from any reluctant person. Making the decision of which pictures to chose is particularly difficult as they are all good.

Timing

Why 28 to 34 weeks suits a Surrey bump shoot

The weeks between 28 and 34 are when most people book. The bump is clearly visible, sleep is usually still manageable, and standing for a few minutes or walking a short path in a park feels possible. Beyond 36 weeks many prefer to stay close to home, which is one reason an at-home session is such a natural fit for Surrey parents.

Twins, a planned early delivery or a pregnancy that has been tiring can all bring that window forward. Tell Kaushik your due date and anything your midwife has advised when you enquire, and a date will be suggested with that in mind. If your plans change, the session moves with them, and nothing about the shoot asks you to push past what is comfortable.

At home

Photographing a pregnancy in your own Surrey house

A session at home is often the simplest choice, and for good reason. A bedroom window gives soft side light, the half-finished nursery tells part of the story, and an older child or the dog can join in without a car journey. Kaushik brings everything needed, sets up in whichever room has the kindest light, and works around a sofa you can sit back on between frames.

Distance shapes the plan rather than ruling anywhere out. Homes in the Thames-side towns of Staines-upon-Thames and Egham are about 12 to 13 miles from the studio; Woking, Leatherhead and Camberley sit at roughly 20 to 23 miles; Guildford, Dorking, Reigate and Redhill are about 25 to 27 miles out. Wherever you live, travel from Northwood is quoted up front and set out in writing before you book.

North Surrey outdoors

Riverside and garden settings from Laleham to Esher

If you would like some frames outdoors, north Surrey has gentle, level ground close to the Thames. The Lammas Recreation Ground at Staines has a large picnic field and river frontage, though its summer splash park and café make it lively on warm afternoons, so an early start helps. Laleham Park, just downstream on Shepperton Road, has parking close by, which matters more than usual at 33 weeks.

Runnymede Pleasure Grounds on Windsor Road in Egham is a council park with parking and public toilets, two practical points for a pregnant client. Nearby, Englefield Green is a large village green with open grass and a cricket green. Further east, Claremont Landscape Garden outside Esher is a Grade I registered 18th-century garden owned by the National Trust, with a turfed amphitheatre that looks over the lake.

South and mid Surrey outdoors

Formal gardens and town parks under the North Downs

Towards the Downs the choice widens. Stoke Park off Nightingale Road is Guildford's largest park, 52 hectares of rolling grassland with a rose garden and views across the town. In Reigate, Priory Park on Bell Street has lakes, a sunken garden and a café where you can rest between set-ups. In Dorking, the Pippbrook Grounds were once the gardens of a listed Victorian Gothic house by Sir George Gilbert Scott.

Closer to the middle of the county, the Mansion Gardens off Church Street in Leatherhead have islands in the River Mole that are part of a Local Nature Reserve. Nonsuch Park, between Cheam and Ewell, keeps formal gardens tended by volunteers on the site of Henry VIII's palace. Redhill's Memorial Park on London Road has a sensory garden and a café pavilion, handy for a short, sheltered session.

Planning

What to wear, how long it takes, and the studio alternative

A session usually runs for about an hour, with breaks whenever you want them. Fitted dresses, a soft knit or an open shirt over a vest all show the bump well; partners look good in plain colours that sit alongside yours. If you are walking to a spot in a park, wear flat shoes for the walk and change once you arrive, and bring water.

You may prefer to leave the house and make a trip of it. The Northwood studio at 21 Joel Street is two minutes from Northwood Hills station on the Metropolitan line, with a plain backdrop, controlled light and somewhere comfortable to sit. A maternity photoshoot there takes the same time as one at home.

You can pair the bump session with newborn photography in Surrey a few weeks later, so the same rooms or the same park appear in both sets. Session prices for both are given on request by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383.

Planning

Planning around Surrey

01

Pick a week, not just a day

Aim for 28 to 34 weeks and give Kaushik two or three possible dates, so a rainy forecast in Surrey does not leave you short of time.

02

Parking and toilets matter

Runnymede Pleasure Grounds and Laleham Park both have parking close at hand, and the Egham ground also has public toilets, which is worth knowing late in pregnancy.

03

Quieter mornings by the river

Lammas Recreation Ground gets busy around its summer splash park and café, so an earlier start keeps the background clear of crowds.

04

Home first, park second

A short indoor set by a window, then ten minutes in your garden or a nearby park, gives variety without a long walk.

Good to know

Maternity photoshoots in Surrey: questions answered

Yes. Kaushik travels to homes across Surrey, from Staines-upon-Thames about 12 miles from Northwood to Redhill about 27 miles away, and sets up in the room with the softest light. For a maternity visit, travel from Northwood is quoted up front and put in writing before you book.

Between 28 and 34 weeks suits most people. The bump is clear and you are usually still comfortable standing for a few minutes. With twins or a planned early delivery, aim earlier. Tell Kaushik your due date and he will suggest dates to match.

Of course. Partners, older children and pets can all join in, and many of the most natural frames come from a toddler leaning on the bump. Kaushik keeps the group shots short so younger children do not lose interest.

Level ground with seating nearby works well. Options include Laleham Park and the Lammas Recreation Ground near Staines, Stoke Park in Guildford, Priory Park in Reigate and Claremont Landscape Garden near Esher. Kaushik will suggest a spot near your home.

The session moves indoors to your home or is rescheduled to another date in your 28 to 34 week window. Having a back-up date agreed when you book takes the pressure off a changeable Surrey forecast.

Session prices are given on request by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383, so you get a figure for the exact session you want. The travel from Northwood to your Surrey address is shown separately in the written quote.

Yes. The maternity shoot happens in the third trimester, and the newborn session follows in the first two weeks after birth, at home or in the Northwood studio. Booking both early makes it easier to hold a newborn date open.
