Gladstone Park's walled garden
Sheltered walls and rose terraces on Dollis Hill, high above the city. Dogs must be on a lead in the walled garden, which helps if yours is joining the session.

Bump portraits at home, in a walled garden or beside the Thames, timed for the weeks when you still feel like being photographed. Kaushik Bathia comes to you anywhere from Northolt to Kensington.
The short answer
At home, in your garden or in a West London park. Gladstone Park in Dollis Hill has a walled garden and rose terraces, Lampton Park in Hounslow has flower beds and a pond, and Chiswick has the long conservatory at Chiswick House. The best time is between about 28 and 34 weeks. Kaushik Bathia comes to you from Northwood, and travel is set out in your written quote; session prices are given on request by phone or WhatsApp.
We’re so glad we chose Kaushik as our photographer for maternity shoot —he was absolutely fantastic. On the day, he made us feel completely at ease, and the photos turned out superb. He was incredibly accommodating with all our requests and his attentiveness and personable nature were exactly what we hoped for in a photographer. Thank you, Kaushik!
Kaushik has photographed my wife and me for the bump to baby photo shoot. We really enjoyed it. He knows how to make us smile and look happy and relaxed. We really appreciate his work and we look forward to meet him on our next appointment for the newborn photo shoot! Thank you again Kaushik!
I would highly recommend Northwood Hills Studio. We have been been capturing our favourite family portraits since 2004. Always great fun, yet very professional. The printed results are great and we will keep coming back.
Choosing the week
For a maternity photoshoot, about 28 to 34 weeks is the window: the bump is clearly rounded and you are still comfortable standing for a few minutes, walking a garden path or kneeling on a rug. In West London, if you have your heart set on the long conservatory at Chiswick House, remember that the gardens close at dusk, so a winter session there needs a late-morning start rather than an afternoon one.
Expecting twins? Then the session usually moves nearer to 28 weeks. Book a few weeks ahead so the date lands inside the window you want, and tell Kaushik about anything your midwife has advised. The plan then fits around you, not the other way round.

Gardens and glasshouses
West London has an unusual number of enclosed, sheltered gardens, which suit a maternity session because they are quieter than an open park. Gladstone Park in Dollis Hill has a walled garden and rose terraces on a hilltop looking out over the capital, and it holds a Green Flag Award. Ravenscourt Park in Hammersmith also has a walled garden, alongside a lake that was once part of a medieval manor moat.
In Chiswick, at Chiswick House, the 300-foot conservatory built by Samuel Ware in 1813 to house exotic fruits and camellias gives soft, filtered light and a backdrop of glass and greenery. The gardens are free to enter and open daily from 7am until dusk. In Kensington, Holland Park's Kyoto Garden, created for the Japan Festival in London in 1992, sits within 54 acres of woodland and formal gardens around the surviving wing of Holland House.
Level ground
Later in pregnancy the walk matters as much as the view. Lampton Park in Hounslow, north-west of Hounslow Central station, has a formal southern half with flower beds, a pond, a memorial garden, woodland and a wildflower meadow, all within a short, flat stroll. The grounds of Southall's timber-framed Elizabethan Manor House, in the town centre, have yew trees and an old mulberry said to have been planted by Henry VIII.
Norwood Green, at the junction of Norwood Road and Tentelow Lane, grew up around St Mary's Church and still has its triangular green. Next to it, Tentelow Wood is an ancient bluebell wood, so late April or early May can give a carpet of blue around you. Bramley Gardens in Northfields, about 50 metres from the station, has seasonal flowers and mature trees and needs no walking at all.

At home
Some of the most personal maternity pictures are taken in the room you are preparing for the baby. A half-built cot, a stack of tiny clothes or a partner painting the wall tells part of the story no park can. Kaushik sets up beside the best window, keeps a chair close so you can sit between frames, and works at a pace that suits how you feel that day.
At-home sessions work just as well in a Hanger Hill house from the late 1920s as in a mansion flat in Kensington. They are also the easiest option if the weather turns or if you are nearer 34 weeks. Travel from Northwood is quoted up front and set out in writing before you book, wherever in West London you live, and the family photography page covers sessions after the birth. If you prefer full control over the light, the Northwood studio is warm and private, and an outdoor session can still follow in spring blossom or autumn colour.
Wardrobe and company
The aim is to show the bump rather than hide it. Bring something fitted and something flowing: a bump-hugging dress or knit shows the shape, while a long dress or gown adds movement, especially by the river at Dukes Meadows when there is a breeze off the Thames. Solid colours photograph cleanly, and Kaushik is happy to advise on a palette before the day.
Partners and older children are welcome in the frame and often make the warmest pictures of the set. If you are planning a Gujarati or Punjabi family gathering for a baby shower or godh bharai in Southall or Hounslow, ask about photographing that too. A newborn session at home can be booked at the same time, so the bump and the baby are covered together.

Planning
Sheltered walls and rose terraces on Dollis Hill, high above the city. Dogs must be on a lead in the walled garden, which helps if yours is joining the session.
Samuel Ware's 300-foot conservatory of 1813 at Chiswick House gives filtered light in most weathers. The gardens open daily from 7am until dusk and are free to enter.
The ancient bluebell wood between Norwood Green and Southall is best in late spring, which suits a due date in early summer.
Flat paths, a pond and flower beds close together in Hounslow make Lampton Park an easy choice past 32 weeks.
Hillingdon Council asks that professional photos in its green spaces, even for personal use, have its permission first. Allow time if you choose a park near Heathrow.
These West London parks and gardens suit a maternity session. Check opening times and any photography rules before you choose one.

Town by town
Each West London town below is shown with its distance from Northwood. All of them are within about 11 miles, close enough for a session at home or in your local park.
Good to know
The gardens at Chiswick House are free to enter and open daily from 7am until dusk, and the 300-foot conservatory and Italian Garden both suit bump portraits. Choose an early start to avoid busier paths. Chiswick is about 9.9 miles from Northwood, and travel is set out in your written quote.
Holland Park covers 54 acres around the surviving wing of the 17th-century Holland House, with woodland, formal gardens and the Kyoto Garden. It gives a lot of variety in a small area, which helps when you want two outfits without a long walk. Kensington and Chelsea is about 11 miles from Northwood.
Get in touch a few weeks before you reach 28 weeks so a date can be fixed inside the 28 to 34 week window. Ealing Broadway is about 7.6 miles from Northwood, and Walpole Park, with its fishpond, fountains and Serpentine Lake, is close by if you would like some frames outdoors.
Yes. Partners and older children are welcome and add warmth to the set. For a toddler, a park with a playground nearby helps: Lammas Park in West Ealing and Northfields has one, along with a nature area and bowling greens.
The session can move indoors at your home, or to a new date if you would rather wait for better weather. Hounslow is about 9.5 miles from Northwood, so rearranging is usually simple. Lampton Park and Hounslow Heath both look different in soft, overcast light, so light rain is not always a reason to cancel.
Maternity prices are given on request by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383. They depend on the session and on the prints, frames or album you choose. A maternity and newborn package can be priced together if you would like both.
For green spaces run by Hillingdon Council, yes: the council says professional photos taken there need its permission, even for personal use. If you prefer to skip that step, Lampton Park in Hounslow or Bedfont Lakes Country Park in Feltham are alternatives on the Hounslow side; check that council's current guidance too.
