…Kaushik is incredibly talented, artistic, and truly gifted with a photographer’s vision. He knows exactly what he wants each frame to look like and how to get the best out of his subjects. Honestly, there were moments during the shoot when I’d wonder, “What is he making me do?” – but when I saw the final shots, I was blown away. Every image looked beautiful, intentional, and natural.

Brent and Neasden

Neasden Temple and the Hindu heart of Brent

The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir on Pramukh Swami Road, Neasden, was opened in 1995 by Pramukh Swami Maharaj as Europe's first traditional Hindu stone temple. It is built of Bulgarian limestone and Indian and Italian marble, to ancient Vedic texts, without any structural steel. It sits just west of Willesden Green and close to Dollis Hill, 8.3 miles from Northwood, and for a family that worships there it can shape where the wedding week is planned.

Brent itself had the lowest share of UK-born residents in England and Wales at the 2021 census, with India the most common country of birth among those born abroad. If your family wants a blessing or a visit to a mandir during the wedding week, ask the temple about its guidance on photography for that visit, and Kaushik plans around what it says. The Brent Hindu wedding page has more on the borough.

Before the day

Ganesh puja, haldi and mehndi in West London homes

The rituals before the wedding can happen at home, whether that is a semi in Northolt, a terrace in Kilburn or a flat in Hammersmith. The Ganesh puja, the haldi and the mehndi each have their own feel, and a Gujarati family may add the pithi and the mandvo. Tell Kaushik the order your family follows, who leads each ritual and which relatives matter most, and the coverage follows that order rather than a fixed shot list.

In a smaller home, it helps to choose one room with good daylight for the haldi and clear a little space around the person being blessed. The haldi is messy by design, so old clothes for close family and a towel by the door keep the photographs joyful rather than anxious. The sangeet, which may be in a hired hall in Southall, Hounslow or Ealing, is a different job: music, dancing and performances from both families, photographed from the edge of the floor.

The ceremony

Mandap, pheras and saptapadi: photographing the ceremony itself

On the wedding day the baraat, the milni, the jaimala garland exchange and the kanyadaan under the mandap may all feature, but the order varies by family and pandit, so we go through yours beforehand. In many Gujarati weddings the saptapadi, the seven steps, follows the pheras as a separate rite, after the couple has circled the sacred fire. Kaushik works around the pandit and the havan, moving quietly so the priest never has to pause for the camera.

Before the day, it is worth asking your pandit how long the ceremony will run and whether there is any moment the family would rather keep private. The hall or venue may also have its own rules about where a photographer can stand during the ceremony, and those are followed. The vidaai at the end is often the most emotional part of the day, and it is photographed as it happens, without staging.

The national Hindu wedding photography page lists each ritual with its place in the day, and our Hindu wedding photography guide explains what each one means for the coverage. Read them alongside this page if your family follows Gujarati, Punjabi, Marwari or North Indian customs, since each keeps its own order of rituals.

The legal ceremony

Pairing the Hindu ceremony with Brent, Ealing or Hounslow's register office

A Hindu ceremony can be paired with a civil one. Brent Register Office at Brent Civic Centre, 32 Engineers Way, Wembley, holds up to 100 guests in its ground-floor ceremony suite, with a flower wall and flowered arch, and its Ceremony Gardens offer an outdoor ceremony under an all-weather canopy. For Hindu families in Brent, that is the borough's own room and it is big enough for both sides.

Ealing's register office holds its larger ceremonies in the Small Hall at The Brentham Club, for up to 30 guests, and Hounslow's is at Feltham Lodge, whose Garden Room also holds 30. In Hounslow, a ceremony at any licensed venue other than Feltham Lodge needs the venue and the registrar booked separately, so if you want the civil and Hindu ceremonies on one day, confirm the registrar early.

Portraits and reception

Couple portraits from Gladstone Park to Gunnersbury

Between the ceremony and the reception there is usually time for twenty minutes of couple portraits. Gladstone Park in Dollis Hill has a walled garden, rose terraces and views across London from the top of the hill, and it is a short drive from Neasden. On the Ealing side, Gunnersbury Park has 72 hectares of Grade II* listed parkland with formal gardens and lakes, and Walpole Park has a Serpentine Lake and fountains.

For the next step, the Hindu wedding pages for Southall, Hounslow, Ealing and Kensington and Chelsea cover each town, and the West London Asian wedding page covers multi-day planning. Wedding photography starts from £750. Travel from Northwood to each event day is listed in your written quote before you book.

Planning around West London

01

Send the order of your family's rituals and who leads each one, so the pithi, mandvo and pheras are covered in sequence.

Talk to the pandit

Ask your pandit how long the ceremony runs and whether any moment should stay private, then share the answer before the day.

03

Brent's own room

Brent Civic Centre's ceremony suite holds up to 100, so both families can attend the civil ceremony in Wembley together.

04

Plan the haldi room

Pick one room with daylight for the haldi and keep old clothes ready for close family, so the photographs stay relaxed.

Good to know

Hindu weddings in West London: questions answered

Yes. Kaushik photographs Gujarati weddings in Brent and the rest of West London, including the pithi, the mandvo, the pheras and the saptapadi. Neasden, home of the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, is in Brent, about 8.5 miles from Northwood, and travel is set out in writing before you book.

Every mandir sets its own guidance on photography. Ask the temple what it allows for your visit or blessing and share the answer with Kaushik, who plans the coverage around it. Where photography inside is not possible, the moments before and after, with family outside, can still be covered.

That depends on your pandit and your family's traditions. Ask the pandit how long the ceremony will run, then build the day around it, with time for the baraat beforehand and family groups after. Coverage starts from £750, and the package is shaped around your ceremony.

Yes. The haldi, mehndi and sangeet can each be photographed as their own event, at home or in a hired hall, and planned day by day with you. Each day is listed in your quote, so you can choose which events to include and see the travel from Northwood for each.

Ealing's larger ceremonies are in the Small Hall at The Brentham Club, for up to 30 guests, and Hounslow's are at Feltham Lodge, whose Garden Room also holds 30. In Hounslow, marrying at a licensed venue other than Feltham Lodge means booking the venue and the registrar separately.

Gladstone Park in Dollis Hill is close by, with a walled garden, rose terraces, a duck pond and views across London from the top of the hill. Dogs must be on a lead in the walled garden, which matters only if one is joining the portraits. Twenty minutes there between ceremony and reception is usually enough.
