Deciding in advance which corner keeps the couple's faces clear of a post, and which one leaves the parents visible for the kanyadaan, solves most of the ceremony's photographic difficulty long before any chair is occupied. Meanwhile the havan burns with the house lights still up, so haze thickens in the beam of every fixture overhead and contrast drains away across the afternoon.

Nothing about the sindoor or the mangalsutra happens at a distance; hands and heads sit between the camera and two faces, which makes it a problem of standing position rather than shutter speed, and the position wants finding several minutes ahead of the moment itself. Saptapadi presents the opposite trouble. One short circuit, repeated, will give you a folder of pictures that all resemble each other unless the photographer keeps moving: low at one corner, upright at the far post next time around, tight, then wide.
