Both, though outdoors often suits a dog best, either in the garden you already have or out on the parkland at Osterley Park, where a dog has room to move. Cats, rabbits and other indoor animals stay put and get photographed indoors, in the spot where nothing startles them. The Northwood room is for a plain studio backdrop, usually a show or breed requirement.

Our studio is at 21 Joel St, Northwood HA6 1NU, with Northwood Hills the nearest station. For pet work in Southall it rarely comes into it, since we go to the animal instead of asking a nervous dog to make a car journey to a strange room. The exception is a formal plain-background picture, which needs the room and the lights we keep there.

Of course. Several pets from one household can be photographed together and separately. Cats and dogs from the same home are welcome together, and we take our time until every face is turned towards the camera. It helps to bring one extra pair of hands per animal.

It is the booking we would most encourage. An old dog with sore joints is photographed on its own bed and its own floor, with no stairs, no fetching and no standing about. We work low, keep the whole thing to twenty minutes or so, and stop early if that is what the animal wants. Grey muzzles photograph beautifully in soft window light.

Yes. Nobody transports a horse for a photograph, so we come to the yard where it is kept. That shapes everything: the session is fitted round turnout and feeding instead of round the light, and the surface and lighting of the yard decide what is possible. A dark horse wants the first hour of light or the last. Handlers are welcome in frame.
