We work from ground level, which means lying down in whatever the wood has to offer, because a dog seen from adult height reads as a shape rather than a face. Sessions run in short bursts with proper breaks.
You get the frames that worked, edited, with the lead painted out where it crosses the body. Anything anxious, elderly or unreliable off the lead is planned for before we meet, not discovered on the day, so tell us the awkward parts when you enquire.

We had a family shoot at the studio, Kaushik took some wonderful photos. He was excellent with the kids and was very good at making them smile naturally, the end results were brilliant. We purchased a canvas and 2 further large framed photos. All completed on time and to perfection. Very pleased.
Having had Mr Bathia to do our family studio photos with our first child, we again went for him second time round with our second child 5 years later. He is extremely good in getting our girls attention to capture lovely photos. He is a great photographer and would definitely recommend him.

In Ruislip Woods we would let your dog explore and play first, following the council's signs on where dogs must be on a lead, and take the pictures once it has relaxed. We never force a pose, coaxing your animal gently with a favourite toy or a treat rather than trying to hold it still.
Afterwards you pick from an edited gallery, and we advise on print size, because a large dog deserves a large print. Rabbits and guinea pigs are photographed in a secure, enclosed space at home, in short and quiet sessions.

- Ruislip Lido Woodlands Centre. The Woodlands Centre at Ruislip Lido runs nature walks, family walks and craft sessions, and swimming in the lido lake is not permitted. 4

Kaushik Bathia has 25+ years behind the camera, and pet sessions are built around the animal rather than the clock. Dogs, cats, horses and small pets of every age and temperament are welcome, and anxious animals are given time to settle first.
Yes. We cover Ruislip and the rest of the borough, and we come to wherever the animal is settled. Cats and rabbits are always done at home. Dogs are best photographed somewhere they already know, such as Ruislip Woods or the paths beside the lido, so nothing about the day is strange to them.
Because the ground gets chosen for the animal. Ruislip Woods is dark trunks over dark leaf litter, which swallows a black dog whole, so for a dark coat we move to the paler sand and open paths by the lido instead. An older or anxious dog stays on the level paths near an entrance, and the whole thing is kept brief.
Roughly an hour on site, of which the photography is perhaps half. Most dogs give real cooperation for about twenty minutes, so we work in bursts with proper breaks and call it a day on the dog's terms rather than ours. Older dogs and anything anxious get shorter sessions, which nearly always produces better pictures than pressing on.
Absolutely. Dark coats are wonderful to work with, and the lighting is arranged so the eyes and every strand of fur on a black cat or dog show clearly. Pale and white coats get the same care, kept away from bright sand where they would lose their detail.

Ruislip is roughly 1.8 miles from our studio, so meeting you at the woods or at home takes us very little time. It sits close to Ruislip Manor and Eastcote, which we cover too. Because Ruislip is so close to Northwood, we do not charge travel for a pet session anywhere in the town.
Ruislip Lido was created in 1811 as a feeder reservoir for the Grand Junction Canal, opened as a lido in 1933, and now has an artificial sand beach ringed by woodland. Between them, Ruislip and West Ruislip stations cover the Metropolitan, Piccadilly and Central lines. Ruislip Woods is the obvious setting for a dog session here, and it is the age of the wood that shapes it. An old woodland floor is built out of roots, and roots do not read as an obstacle in a photograph, they simply catch an animal mid stride. An elderly dog, or one with stiff hips, is kept on the made paths with the trees left as background rather than as terrain. A fit dog with dependable recall is better served off the paths, where there is space to send it away and call it back and the frames come from real running rather than a pose. Coat colour then decides where we stand. A black or liver dog put in front of trunks and leaf litter collapses into an outline with nothing readable inside it, and the remedy is not exposure, it is finding ground paler than the animal: the sand at the lido, a bare path, a mown edge, frost. Light coloured dogs have precisely the reverse problem and are kept away from open sand. If yours goes in the water, everything dry is done first, because a soaked coat turns into a dark stripe and no amount of work afterwards puts the fur back. The miniature railway earns a mention as well, since a small moving train is exactly the sort of thing some dogs decide to chase, so the lead stays on until we know which sort we have. A nervous dog does better at its own address, or on empty ground with a long lens doing the approaching.

You can find us at The Broadway, 21 Joel St, Northwood HA6 1NU, and Northwood Hills station on the Metropolitan line is the closest stop. Pet and portrait sittings there are by appointment, and prints and frames are made in house. Studio hours are 10:30 to 18:00 from Monday to Saturday and 13:00 to 18:00 on Sundays, useful if your dog is calmer indoors than out.
