Ruislip station is served by two lines rather than one, Metropolitan as well as Piccadilly, out on the Uxbridge branch, and that single fact splits the people who book headshots here into two groups who want different things from the same hour. One group travels in to an employer in central London, where the rest of the staff were photographed by whoever the firm uses, and their portrait has to slot into a grid of other portraits without announcing itself as new. The other group works close to home, in Hillingdon and along the branch, and needs one picture that has to serve a profile, a bio and a conference badge with nobody else's to match. For the first, we ask for a link to the existing page and copy what is already there: how much wall shows behind the head, how high the lens sits, which side the light falls from. For the second, all of those choices get made for the face instead of for a template. What gives away a mismatched portrait is never the clothing. It is the height the lens sat at, because a camera above the eyes narrows a jaw and the same camera below them widens it, and it is the tone of the wall behind: one head on pale grey among four heads on charcoal reads as a later addition however well it was made. Both of those are decisions rather than accidents, and both are quicker to get right at Northwood than in a borrowed room, which is the real argument for the short trip out along the Metropolitan.

Headshot sittings are booked in advance, and printing and framing are handled on the premises. We are open Monday to Saturday from 10:30 to 18:00 and on Sundays from 13:00 to 18:00, so a headshot can fit around a working week in Ruislip.
