The short answer

Where can I have a dog photoshoot in North West London?

Dog photoshoots in North West London can happen in Ruislip Woods, at Stanmore Common, in Pinner Memorial Park or in Union Park at Wembley Park, each with its own lead rules, or in the Northwood Hills studio. Hillingdon Council asks for permission before professional photos in its green spaces, so Ruislip Lido sessions are planned around that. Pet session prices come on request, and your written quote lists any travel from Northwood to the park.

What families say

…The gentleman took my family and I last minute for a photoshoot. Although we were running extremely late as we had a newborn, he waited patiently for us. He initially said he could only do 30 minutes because we were late but he ended up spending the entire hour and some minutes making sure we had the best photos.

Fantastic service, Kaushik captured some amazing shots of our family. He is patient, professional, friendly and creative which really helps when trying to get pictures with young children. You never feel rushed and the final product will be something we cherish for years to come. This was our second time with Kaushik and we will be going back again. We have no hesitation in recommending him. Thank you Kaushik!

Ruislip Woods

Ancient woodland and the Lido, a short drive from the studio

Ruislip Woods, entered from Reservoir Road, is described by Hillingdon Council as the largest block of ancient, semi-natural woodland in Greater London and one of the most extensive oak and hornbeam coppice woods in south-east England. Ruislip Lido sits within it, with an artificial sand beach surrounded by trees and the Ruislip Lido Railway running through the woods. Swimming in the lake is not allowed, which is worth knowing if your dog loves water.

Hillingdon Council requires permission for professional photos in its green spaces, even for personal use, and names Ruislip Lido among them, so a session there is booked once that permission is in place. Hillingdon's 2025 order also requires dogs to be on a lead on any pavement within 3 metres of a road, and any dog that wanders into a children's play area must be taken straight out. The woods are about two miles from the studio. See pet photography in Ruislip.

Bentley Priory and Stanmore

Spring Meadow leads, the Deer Path and the muddy paths of Stanmore Common

Bentley Priory Nature Reserve covers 66 hectares on the Harrow side of Stanmore, with meadows grazed by cattle in summer next to a private deer park of about 24 fallow deer. Harrow's order of July 2024 requires dogs to be on leads in Spring Meadow from 1 April to 31 July and at all times in the Deer Path Corridor, and keeps them out of the marked ponds and watercourses. For running, off-lead shots here, August to March is the window.

Stanmore Common off Warren Lane is woodland and wildflower meadow crossed by winding paths, and dogs are allowed in all its green spaces; the paths can be muddy, so bring a towel for the car. Stanmore Country Park, north of Stanmore station, has a 2.3 km nature trail, and its volunteer wardens ask visitors to keep dogs under control. Stanmore is about 4.5 miles from the studio and Kaushik comes to you. See pet photography in Stanmore.

Grazing reserves

Cattle, sheep and lead-only meadows from Ickenham to Horsenden Hill

Several of the wildest-looking places in the area are working reserves where a lead is required. Ickenham Marsh on Glebe Avenue is an 8-hectare London Wildlife Trust reserve along the Yeading Brook, grazed by cattle and sheep, where dogs must be kept on a lead. Ten Acre Wood on Charville Lane, an oak plantation over hazel coppice, is grazed by cattle under the same rule, and the 24-hectare Yeading Brook Meadows reserve asks for leads too.

Horsenden Hill, on the Ealing side of Sudbury, is ancient woodland and wildflower meadow open to walkers and dogs all year, with dogs on a lead when cows are grazing. These places suit a calmer portrait where the lead is part of the picture, or a close portrait in long grass. If you want your dog running free, choose a park without grazing, and keep the reserves for the quieter frames. Ickenham is about 3.2 miles from the studio.

Pinner and Harrow parks

Pinner Memorial Park, Headstone Manor and Harrow's proper-control rule

Pinner Memorial Park allows dogs in all its green spaces and, according to the GoParks London listing, has a historic dog cemetery among its features; it also has a pond with ducks and geese, which some dogs find more interesting than the camera. Pinner Village Gardens allows dogs throughout and has dog litter bins. Headstone Manor Park, between Pinner and Harrow, is a Green Flag park that allows dogs with some dog-free zones and has water bowls.

Harrow's borough-wide order defines proper control as a dog on a lead, at heel or responding immediately to voice commands, and requires anyone walking a dog to carry a bag and show it on request. Walking more than four dogs at once needs the council's permission. Alexandra Park on Alexandra Avenue, a 28-acre park opened in 1928, is always open and allows dogs in all its green spaces. Pinner is 1.5 miles from the studio; see pet photography in Pinner and Harrow.

Brent's parks

Off-lead areas at Union Park and Brent's 2026 dog order

Union Park at Wembley Park is a seven-acre park whose southern section, opened in 2021, has dedicated areas where dogs can be off the lead, about ten minutes' walk from the Underground station. Brent's parks order, in force from 1 February 2026 for three years, bars dogs from playgrounds, multi-use games areas and tennis courts, requires leads in walled gardens and other signed areas, and limits a walker to four dogs. Barham Park's walled garden falls under that lead rule.

One Tree Hill Recreation Ground on Norton Road is popular with local dog walkers and looks towards Harrow on the Hill and central London, and Tokyngton Recreation Ground follows the River Brent towards Wembley Stadium. Wembley is about six miles from the studio, so Kaushik comes to you; travel from Northwood is quoted up front and set out in writing before you book. See pet photography in Wembley.

Studio and quieter walks

Cats, older dogs and the Northwood Hills studio

Not every pet wants a big outing. The studio on Joel Street suits composed companions, cats, rabbits and older dogs, with clean backgrounds and controlled light whatever the weather. Owners in Northwood, Northwood Hills and Moor Park can walk their dog round, and Hog's Back Open Space on Northwood Way, once part of Hundred Acre Farm, is close by for a few outdoor frames before or after.

For an older dog that still enjoys a walk, Oxhey Woods north-east of Northwood has a one-kilometre firm-surfaced circular path, with its car park at Prestwick Road and Oxhey Drive. Bring the treats, the squeaky toy and the lead your pet knows. There is more on how sessions run on the pet photography page, and you can combine a pet session with family photography.

Planning

Planning around North West London

01

Spring Meadow, April to July

Dogs must be on leads in Bentley Priory's Spring Meadow from 1 April to 31 July, so off-lead running shots there belong between August and March.

02

Hillingdon permission first

Ruislip Lido, Manor Farm and Eastcote House Gardens need Hillingdon Film Office permission for professional photos, even for a personal pet shoot.

03

Off the lead in Union Park

Union Park at Wembley Park has dedicated off-lead areas, a rare open space in Brent for photographing a dog running free.

04

Cows on Horsenden Hill

Horsenden Hill's meadows are grazed at times, and dogs go on a lead while the cows are out, so check before planning an off-lead session.

05

More than four dogs

Hillingdon needs a licence for one person in sole charge of more than four dogs in a public place, so bring a second handler for a large pack.

06

Firm path at Oxhey Woods

Oxhey Woods has a one-kilometre firm-surfaced circular walk, kind to older dogs and easy for owners with pushchairs.

Good to know

Pet photography in North West London: questions answered

Yes, once Hillingdon Council has given permission: it requires professional photos in its green spaces to be approved first, and names Ruislip Lido. The beach and the woodland trails make a good setting, but swimming in the lake is not allowed. The Lido is about two miles from the studio.

Only at certain times and places. Harrow's order requires dogs on leads in Spring Meadow from 1 April to 31 July and in the Deer Path Corridor at all times, and dogs must stay out of the marked ponds. Outside those areas and dates, a well-recalled dog can run, and Stanmore Common nearby allows dogs in all its green spaces.

Union Park at Wembley Park has dedicated off-lead areas in its southern section, about ten minutes' walk from the station. Under Brent's 2026 order dogs are barred from playgrounds and tennis courts and must be on leads in walled gardens, so off-lead frames belong in the marked areas.

Its winding paths can be muddy, particularly in winter, but that suits a dog that loves a proper walk. Wear boots, bring a towel and a spare lead, and keep the cleaner portraits for the drier meadow edges. After a wet spell, Pinner Memorial Park or the studio are tidier options.

Yes, with two people handling them. Hillingdon's 2025 order bars one person from being in sole charge of more than four dogs in a public place without a licence, so bring a second adult and share the dogs between you. In Harrow, walking more than four at once needs the council's permission.

Yes. Cats are usually happiest at home, photographed where they already feel secure, and Pinner is only 1.5 miles from the studio. Small pets such as rabbits and guinea pigs can be photographed at home too, or brought to the studio in Northwood Hills.

Call or WhatsApp 07956 505383 for pet prices, with your pet's name, breed and the park you have in mind. The quote depends on whether it is a studio or outdoor session and how many images you want finished, and travel from Northwood to your chosen park is set out as its own line in writing.
