The pond decides the running order of a pet session in Pinner Memorial Park. A dog that gets into water comes out a different animal to photograph: fur lies flat, the texture that makes a coat read as a coat is gone, and a dark dog goes from black to blacker. So the water is where a session ends, never where it begins. Everything needing the animal to look like itself happens first, and the swim is the reward. Coat colour then decides the ground. Deep shade beneath grown trees is the worst place in the park for a dark dog, because coat and background sit at nearly the same brightness and the outline disappears into it.
