Nobody photographs one long wedding across five days. It amounts to four or five distinct jobs, in separate buildings, under separate rules and separate light, held together only by the family. The common error is treating the middle days as minor. Those days generally produce the pictures you keep, and nobody budgets hours for them. Budget them properly and the week improves at once.

The one fixed point across the week is Pinner Memorial Park, twelve acres of it, and ground of that size costs you time. Shifting thirty people from a gate down to the fountain and back is slow work. Decide beforehand which of the days that walk belongs to, rather than wedging it into every one of them. Twenty five years behind the camera have taught us that plans fail at the joins, never halfway through a ceremony. So the joins come first when we plan.

Every family's week has one event carrying the weight, which is rarely the event printed on an invitation. Sometimes the ceremony. Sometimes the night before it, when nobody is watching and the house is packed. That question comes early from us, since the answer becomes the day given extra hours instead of standard ones. Deciding it in advance also settles where coverage goes when a schedule slips, and schedules do slip.

What happens between events is where exposure genuinely gets decided. Cards empty, batteries return to charge, and somebody realises tomorrow begins three hours sooner than anybody said. Those gaps count as coverage for us, not as intervals separating it, which is how the finished sequence hangs together instead of reading like five shoots stapled into a single book. Nobody plans the gaps, and planning them separates a coherent week from a scramble. Half an hour of forethought buys the whole thing.

The Grange Country House in neighbouring Northwood is a restored 15th-century country house offered for weddings on an exclusive-hire basis, from ceremony-only to all-inclusive packages. ¹
Pinner Memorial Park, a Green Flag Award winner close to the centre of Pinner, has a pond with ducks and geese, an aviary, an ornamental Peace Garden, woodland and a coffee shop, with entrances on Chapel Lane, Marsh Road, West End Avenue and West End Lane. ²
Harrow Register Office is at The Pavilion, Perceval Square, College Road, Harrow HA1 1GX, where the ceremony room seats up to 50 people and opens onto a courtyard for photographs, a one-minute walk from Harrow-on-the-Hill station. ³
St John the Baptist Church. Pinner's parish church of St John the Baptist, at the top of the High Street, was consecrated in 1321 on the site of an earlier place of worship, and its west tower and south porch date from the 15th century. ⁴

We are getting married in Pinner. Will you research our venue?+

Yes. Pinner is about 1.5 miles from our Northwood studio, so travel is not charged, and the choice nearby runs from Grim's Dyke Hotel, a Grade II listed house in 40 acres of gardens and woodland, to the Great Barn at Headstone Manor, which Harrow Council approves for ceremonies of 80 to 250+ guests. For any venue we read what it publishes, check the layout and the light with the venue ahead of the day, and arrive early to decide where we will stand.

What is your photography style for an Asian wedding?+

Mostly documentary. A short directed portrait session sits somewhere inside the day, and posing gets no further than that. We do not stage rituals or shout over a room. Colour stays true rather than pushed, because the clothes are already doing that work.

How many hours of coverage do we need?+

Count events rather than hours. A single day normally runs from the getting ready right into the evening's first hour. A week needs a conversation, since the answer depends on which days you genuinely want remembered in detail.

How do you handle the low light inside many ceremony venues?+

Fast lenses, a high ISO, and nothing fired at anybody mid ceremony. Modern sensors cope with a dim hall far better than people assume. Where a room proves genuinely too dark, light gets added afterwards, never while the ritual runs.
