Pushchair distance
Northwood at 0.4 miles and Pinner Green at 0.6 are close enough to walk the birthday child to Joel Street straight after a nap.

A first-birthday cake smash at the studio on Joel Street: a pushchair walk for Northwood and Moor Park families, a short drive from Pinner, Ruislip and Harrow, and a nap-length drive from Hayes or Kingsbury.
The short answer
At the studio at 21 Joel Street, Northwood Hills, which is a walk from Northwood and Moor Park and a short drive from Pinner, Ruislip, Eastcote and Harrow. Every cake smash takes place there, and the backdrop and props are ready at the studio. Babies are ready at about 11 to 13 months, once they sit up on their own, and you bring the cake. Allow one to two hours. Prices are given on request by phone or WhatsApp, and travel for a follow-on family session at home is set out in your written quote.
Really appreciated the effort that went into the photoshoot and getting my baby to smile for the photos. Lovely photos to take home. Would recommend.
Great service! Kaushik was able to capture some beautiful shots for my maternity baby and bump shoot. He was very helpful and guided me with the poses throughout the shoot. I love the pictures & I’m looking forward to having the final edits!
He was very professional, made us relaxed and got everyone to smile. The photos were beautiful especially the family portrait.
Getting here
For families in Northwood, Northwood Hills and Moor Park, the cake smash is a pushchair walk: Northwood is 0.4 miles from the studio and Pinner Green 0.6, so the birthday child can come straight from a nap at home without a car seat in between. From Hatch End at 1.7 miles, Ruislip at 1.8 or Ruislip Manor at 2.0 it is a short drive, and there is parking close to the Joel Street parade.
From the far side of the area the drive is longer: Kingsbury is about 6.4 miles away, Hayes and Alperton about 6.5 and Colindale about 7. A baby who sleeps in the car seat on the way tends to arrive fresh, so choose a slot that starts just after a nap would end rather than one that cuts it short. Northwood Hills station on the Metropolitan line is two minutes' walk from the door, though a cake, a pushchair and a change bag are easier by car.

Nap timing
Book the slot for the time of day your baby is happiest, which is usually mid-morning after a nap and a snack rather than late afternoon. If your child still naps twice a day, a slot after the first nap leaves the second for the drive home to Hayes, Wembley or Kingsbury. If the birthday falls on the same weekend as a family party, hold the smash a few days before, so nobody arrives worn out.
A first birthday sometimes sits close to a religious milestone, such as a church blessing or a first visit to a temple; tell us, and we plan the two separately. Our christening page covers the church side. Sessions are booked in advance by phone or WhatsApp, so get in touch a few weeks before the birthday, and earlier still if you want a Saturday.
The cake and the bag
The cake comes from you. Pick a soft sponge under a generous layer of frosting, because small hands cannot break into a firm, carved design, and keep to two or three colours so the pictures stay calm. If allergies or dietary rules apply, an eggless or dairy-free sponge works just as well. The backdrop and props are ready at the studio, so the cake is the only thing you need to organise.
Pack two outfits, one smart for the portraits before the cake and one you do not mind ruining, plus a change of clothes, plenty of wipes and a favourite toy. Older brothers and sisters can join the portraits at the start and, if you are happy for them to, help with the cake. Keep their part short and early, before the birthday child is too busy to look up.

After the cake
The smash takes place only at the studio, but a separate family session can come to you afterwards, at home or in a park near you. Pinner Memorial Park, 1.5 miles from the studio, has a duck pond and a small aviary for a toddler who wants to explore, and Headstone Manor Park in North Harrow covers more than 50 acres, with playgrounds and a perimeter footpath around its restored wetland.
Closer still, Northwood Recreation Ground on Chestnut Avenue has a children's playground. It is a Hillingdon park, and Hillingdon Council asks for permission before professional photos in its parks, so allow time to apply through its Film Office first. Travel from Northwood for a home or park session is set out in your written quote before you book.
The first year
The cake smash closes a first year that may have started with a maternity session at 28 to 34 weeks and a newborn session in the first 5 to 14 days. In North West London both of those can happen at your home, so the studio visit for the cake may be the first time your baby has been photographed away from the house, which is one more reason to time it after a nap.
For the earlier sessions, see the North West London newborn page and the maternity page. Our national cake smash photoshoot guide explains the session in full, and the town pages for Northwood and Harrow cover the two places closest to the studio.

Planning
Northwood at 0.4 miles and Pinner Green at 0.6 are close enough to walk the birthday child to Joel Street straight after a nap.
A soft sponge under plenty of frosting, in two or three colours; the backdrop and props are ready at the studio on Joel Street.
If your child still naps twice a day, book after the first one and let the second happen in the car on the way home.
At about 6.5 miles, time the drive to Joel Street so your one-year-old sleeps on the way and arrives rested.
For a first-birthday portrait without the cake, these sourced parks and open spaces suit a toddler who wants to explore.

Good to know
Around the first birthday, once your baby can sit steadily without help. If the birthday falls in a busy month, a date a couple of weeks either side still works, and a slot just after a nap matters more than the exact date.
Yes. Choose something soft enough for small fists to break into, in colours that suit your theme, and check every ingredient suits your baby. Carry it flat in the car from Harrow or Ruislip rather than on a lap. The backdrop and props are ready at the studio, so there is nothing else to arrange.
Rayners Lane is about 2.5 miles from Joel Street, a short drive, so you can come straight over after a morning nap. The cake smash takes place only at the studio, and if you would also like family pictures at home in Rayners Lane, that can be booked as a separate session with travel set out in your written quote.
Allow one to two hours at the studio, with breaks for a feed or a cuddle whenever your baby needs one. If you are driving from Hayes, Alperton or Colindale, add the journey each way when you plan the day's naps.
Central Harrow is about 3.5 miles from the studio, a short drive, and parking is close by. If you come by Tube, Northwood Hills station on the Metropolitan line is two minutes' walk from the door, though a pushchair, a cake and a change bag are easier by car.
Yes. A first-birthday portrait works without the smash, at the studio or outdoors in a park such as Pinner Memorial Park or Headstone Manor Park, where a child who is walking or nearly walking has room to toddle.
Ring or WhatsApp 07956 505383 and we will give you the cake smash price for your date. If you add a family session at home in, say, Kingsbury or Hayes, travel for that visit is set out in writing before you book.
