A family session in Harrow could take place on the recreation ground below the hill, with Sudbury, Kenton and West Harrow covered on the same footing. Groups of four to ten suit the space, bigger ones are fine with notice, and there is nothing for you to carry or set up.
The craft that matters on open ground is where the light comes from: it arrives from above and nowhere else, so at midday small faces pick up shadow in the eye sockets. We book either the first two hours or the last two, and on a flat grey day the middle of the day opens up as well.

It runs about an hour with pauses built in, since nobody small keeps going for longer than that. You get an edited set, a mix of arranged and unposed, sized for screen and for print, and we will say honestly which frames we would put on a wall.

Yes. The Northwood room is warm, there is nothing breakable at knee height and the floor is clear, so a child who has just arrived settles quickly. Bring snacks, a favourite toy and a spare top. Feeds and naps come first and we work around them, so book the slot when your youngest is normally at their best rather than the slot that suits everyone else.
Yes, and it is booked as one package from the start. The package starts with a newborn sitting, returns as your baby learns to sit up and then to stand, and ends with a cake smash on the first birthday. Seen side by side, the four sittings show how much changes in twelve months.
On their first birthday your child gets a cake of their own to prod, squash and taste in the studio. We photograph the first cautious poke, the mess that follows and the grin at the end. It is messy, noisy and one of the happiest hours we spend in the studio.
Yes. The recreation ground below the hill has the room to stand a big group back far enough that everybody stays sharp, which a small room cannot do. Give us the headcount when you book so we allow the right length. If anybody cannot stand for long, say so, because it changes the order we work in and we bring something for them to sit on.
Pick two or three colours and spread them across the group instead of everybody matching. Nothing with writing across the front. The ground below the hill is exposed, so a layer that comes on and off between frames is worth having, and anyone under five should have a spare top in the bag. Shoes get seen, so they matter more than people expect.

A warm room in Northwood for wet days
From Harrow, the studio at The Broadway, 21 Joel St, Northwood HA6 1NU is about 3.5 miles, with Northwood Hills the closest station. Families come there for newborn, first-year and group sittings, and prints, frames and restored old photographs are all made on the premises. The Northwood room is open 10:30 to 18:00 Monday to Saturday and 13:00 to 18:00 on Sundays, which leaves room for a weekend family sitting.
