Serving Harrow

Beautiful portrait photography in Harrow

We photograph portraits right across Harrow and take the same booking on to Sudbury, Kenton and West Harrow, working outdoors or at the Northwood room if the ground or the weather argues for walls.

Most sittings here are for one person or two, and they run to about an hour of actual photography once the light is found. Elevation is the thing we settle first. The top of the hill holds light late and the recreation ground below loses the sun earlier, so we pick the end that suits the hour you can make and tell you which before you leave the house.

Why choose us

Why couples and individuals in Harrow book us

A sitting opens with a walk and nothing pointed at anybody, because the opening minutes are stiff and it shows in the shoulders. We work through two or three positions and show you the back of the camera as we go, not after you have gone.

You get an edited selection rather than a card of everything, files come sized for the web and sized for print, and retouching stays at the level of a stray mark or a crease. Faces are not reshaped.

Good to know

Portrait Photographer in Harrow, FAQs

Yes, absolutely. Beyond the digital files, we offer beautiful prints, framed portraits, canvases and hand-finished albums, all crafted to a high standard. Whether you are in Harrow or further afield, a portrait on the wall or an album in hand lets you enjoy the images for years to come.

Yes, and they are among the most rewarding sessions we offer in Harrow and the studio. An individual portrait is entirely about you, guided with gentle direction so you look relaxed and flattering. For a branding profile, a gift or simply for yourself, we make every minute count.

The room is at The Broadway, 21 Joel St, Northwood HA6, and the Metropolitan line reaches it from Harrow-on-the-Hill without a change. That said, a portrait in Harrow does not have to happen there. The open ground below the hill is usually the better option, and where we are working outdoors we meet you at an agreed spot rather than asking you to travel first.

Yes, and we cover Sudbury, Kenton and West Harrow on the same booking. Tell us whether you are coming by train or by car when you book, because it decides where we meet. Bring a second top in a different colour, wear shoes that cope with grass, and allow an hour. If the weather turns, the session moves indoors instead of being lost.

We do, but with a gentle touch. Passing distractions such as a stray hair or a small blemish are eased away, yet your skin, lines and character stay exactly as they are. We aim for a flattering, true-to-life portrait, never a heavily edited or artificial one. Outdoors in Harrow we would head for Harrow Recreation Ground below the hill.

Served by Harrow-on-the-Hill station on the Metropolitan line and Harrow and Wealdstone station, near the A404 and A409. For on-location sessions we often head to spots such as Harrow Recreation Ground below the hill, close to the well-known Harrow School and St Mary's Church on Harrow on the Hill.

Harrow gives a sitting two working heights on one site, and choosing between them decides more than the backdrop does. What stands on top of the hill, Harrow School and St Mary's Church among it, is built ground rather than open ground, and that is the whole difference between the two ends of a Harrow portrait. The village up there is enclosed, so light gets into it late in the morning and stays in it late in the evening. Harrow Recreation Ground below is flat and open, lit by the entire sky, and workable hours earlier. The same afternoon therefore photographs twice, differently, without going far. Once the sun drops behind the rise, the lower ground sits in shade while the top still has warmth on it, so a sitting running out of light can move up instead of stopping. Wind is the other cost of height. Exposed ground keeps hair moving, and a portrait made in it reads as unsettled unless the hair is tied back or committed to being loose. On a still day the walk up earns itself; on a rough one we stay low. Clothing follows whichever end we take. Against open grass, mid greens and olive drop straight into the background; warm tones, deep blue and off-white lift away from it. Against the streets above, brick and stone already fill the frame, so plain fabric in one colour stops the picture arguing with itself. Winter opens the top as the branches go bare, and by July those same routes are dark and the work moves back down.
