For Greenford

Beautiful portrait photography in Greenford

A sitting opens with ten minutes of talking and no camera raised. That is not politeness; it is roughly how long it takes most people to stop performing. We then work through three or four setups, altering the background and the light rather than asking for new expressions.

You leave with an edited selection, colour and monochrome where the monochrome is genuinely the stronger version, and files at two sizes: small for phones and messaging, full resolution for printing. Retouching removes the temporary and leaves the permanent.

Twenty-five years behind the lens

Trusted with portraits across Greater London

We photograph a range of expressions and poses, from warm and smiling to quiet and considered, so you have real choice. Turning the shoulders away from the camera and bringing the face back to it narrows the body and widens the eyes, which is why almost every sitting starts there.

Glasses wearers should bring the frames they actually wear rather than an old pair, since reflections are managed by moving the light rather than the glasses. A typical session includes a range of looks, with changes of backdrop, lighting and, if you wish, outfit.

Portrait Photographer in Greenford, FAQs

Plan for about an hour and a half from meeting to finishing. Roughly the first fifteen minutes go on talking and getting the light right, and the remainder is photography across three or four setups. Outdoors in Greenford it can run a little longer, because moving between Ravenor Park and a second position costs walking time that one room does not.

Indoors, plain paper in grey, white or black, lit with softened studio heads: one main light crossing the face, one filling the shadow side, sometimes a third separating hair from the paper. Outdoors in Greenford the backdrop is Ravenor Park or the slopes of Horsenden Hill, and the lighting is daylight shaped with a reflector, or on a hard bright day a diffuser held overhead.

Yes, portfolios are one of our specialities. Whether you are based in Greenford or travelling in, we build a varied set of looks and lighting styles, from clean commercial frames to more characterful ones. We know what casting looks for, and guide your expressions and poses throughout.

It depends on the type of session and what you would like afterwards, from digital images alone to prints, frames, canvases and albums. Tell us what you have in mind, whether that is a personal-branding set or a graduation portrait, and we will put together a clear quote. This applies across Greenford and Sudbury Hill, Hanwell and Yeading.

Yes. In Greenford that usually means Ravenor Park for level ground and space, or Horsenden Hill when the gradient is useful for putting sky or open grass behind the head. We carry battery lighting, so an overcast afternoon is no obstacle. Mention it when booking, since outdoor sittings are timed to the light and the first and last slots are the good ones.

Horsenden Hill is useful for a portrait because of what a gradient does to a camera, not because of where it stands. On level ground the lens sits at the sitter's eye and the background is whatever happens to stand behind them at that height. On a gradient we can move a few feet downhill and tilt slightly up, which puts sky behind the head and empties the frame of clutter, or move uphill and tilt down, which fills the background with grass and turns it into a soft green field. Those are two entirely different portraits, taken minutes apart, with the ground doing the work rather than the lens. The other thing a hill gives is a choice of flank. One side is always turned away from the sun, so instead of waiting for cloud we walk round until the light crosses the face rather than falling onto it. Ravenor Park is the flatter alternative and it earns its place when a sitting needs distance rather than slope, since being the largest park in Greenford it has the room to push the background far enough back that it goes properly soft. On clothing, the thing worth deciding in advance is contrast rather than colour. Mid tones sit well against both grass and sky, while a very pale top on an overcast day becomes the brightest area of the picture and pulls attention away from the face. If the sitting involves embroidered or metallic fabric, tell us beforehand, because thread of that kind throws hard specular points we would rather control at the time than chase afterwards.
