Serving Southall
We photograph portraits across Southall, and Osterley, Yeading and Greenford are covered on exactly the same footing. Most sittings booked here run outdoors on the estate parkland at Osterley Park; when it rains we move to the room in Northwood. Bookings tend to be one or two people rather than a crowd, which keeps the session short and the walking minimal.
There is one habit we keep on every portrait sitting here: each set-up gets photographed at two distances, a close head and shoulders and a three-quarter length. The frame that ends up ordered as a print is almost never the tight one, and having both takes seconds.

What we offer
Outdoor portrait sittings around Southall, planned around Osterley Park's estate parkland and the hour its light works.
Every set-up photographed at two distances, so the print and the profile picture both exist afterwards.
Indoor sittings in Northwood, booked when rain takes the parkland option off the table.
Twenty-five years behind the lens
We settle the place and the hour before anything else, because outdoors the hour matters more than the spot. Photography itself takes about an hour. Pictures appear on a laptop during the sitting, so a shortlist gets agreed before we pack up.
Editing happens only on the frames you choose. A spot goes, a loose hair goes, and the face itself stays as it is. Files come back big enough to print properly and small enough to post, and a mono version of anything that calls for one.

Good to know
Bring two options in different weights rather than two shades of the same thing, and let one of them have sleeves. Small busy patterns turn to mush at any size a portrait is actually viewed at, so keep them plain. Footwear is the thing people under-plan in Southall, because much of the sitting happens on estate grass that holds water.
We do, and they are a joy to make. Graduation marks real hard work, so we photograph it with warmth, in cap and gown if you wish. Sit for the portraits alone or with proud family, and choose prints, frames or an album to keep the day alive. Southall is easy to reach: Southall station on the Elizabeth line, one of the few stations in England with bilingual English and Punjabi signage.
The Broadway, 21 Joel St, Northwood HA6. For portraits booked in Southall it is usually the reserve rather than the plan, because sittings here are built round Osterley Park and its parkland. We hold the room for weather, for anybody who dislikes being photographed where strangers can watch, and for the plain backdrop a formal picture needs.
Yes, and it is straightforward. The one thing worth solving early is height difference, which is fixed by seating rather than by asking the taller one to stoop, so we look for a wall, a bench or a slope before we start. Allow the same hour as a single sitting. Both of you should look through the shortlist, since couples rarely pick the same favourite.
We work to a fast turnaround, so you are never left waiting long. Once the session is done, we carefully edit your images and send through your gallery to choose from. Any prints, frames, canvases or albums you order then follow shortly afterwards. For Southall bookings, getting here is simple: Southall station on the Elizabeth line, one of the few stations in England with bilingual English and Punjabi signage.

Osterley Park is estate parkland, and for a portrait the thing that matters about estate parkland is the grass. Much of the light that reaches a face outdoors has come up off the ground ahead of the sitter, and that ground changes colour twice a year. In late spring the growth is strong and green, and a sunlit green field bounces green: it settles under the chin, into the white of a shirt, and into fair skin, and it is far easier to stand somebody on gravel or a path than to argue with it later. By late summer the same ground has dried to straw and bounces warm instead, which flatters most people enough that we will move a sitting onto it rather than into shade. In winter, with the specimen trees bare, light drops between them in long lanes and the parkland photographs cold and graphic. Clothing follows the season here rather than the wardrobe. Bright white takes the May green cast first and shows it worst. Olive and pale khaki are the ones to leave at home in August, when they sit at the same value as dry grass and the sitter dissolves into the background. Strong deep colours hold their edge in either month. One planning point belongs to an estate rather than a public green: it keeps its own opening hours, and in June the best evening light falls outside them. We check those hours before fixing a time, and where the evening is shut to us the sitting goes to the opening hour of the day instead.
