Dog and cat photography in Northwood

Dogs are photographed on ground they already walk, usually the open ground south of the town rather than deep under the canopy. Cats, rabbits and anything quickly unsettled stay indoors at home. Moor Park, Northwood Hills and Rickmansworth are covered from here as well.

What decides a pet session is exposing for the coat rather than for the scene. A dark dog metered off the whole frame comes out as a shape with no face in it, so the exposure is set on the animal and the background is left to take care of itself. Coat colour therefore picks the location as much as the owner does.

Why choose us

A pet photographer covering Northwood

We work down at the dog's eye line and let the animal set the speed, in short spells with rests between them. Food and a favourite toy are for you to bring; the odd noises and the waiting about are our department.

You get a retouched selection in colour and monochrome, including one frame of the animal on its own. The local advantage is real here: a dog with no interest in settling today can come back next week and nobody counts the trip.

Good to know

Pet Photographer in Northwood, FAQs

Very. With twenty-five years behind the lens and thousands of sessions, we have photographed dogs, cats, horses and small pets of every age and temperament, many of them from Greater London. That experience brings a calm, quick and gentle presence that puts even anxious animals at ease. Landmarks we can work with near Northwood include Mount Vernon Hospital, a long established hospital and cancer centre in Northwood.

Almost nothing. Walking an excitable dog beforehand helps it settle, and a pet that has not just eaten tends to work harder for treats. Bring a beloved toy along to Greater London, and let your animal be itself. The patience, play and timing are all ours to manage. Getting to Northwood is straightforward for us: served by Northwood station on the London Underground Metropolitan line in zone 6.

Please do. A favourite toy or a pocket of treats helps your pet relax and gives us a way to catch its eye. When you visit us from Greater London, know that we bring plenty of our own too, plus squeaky toys and a range of very silly noises. We cover Northwood and nearby Moor Park, Northwood Hills and Rickmansworth.

You receive a gallery of carefully edited photographs that show your pet exactly as you know it. From there you can choose prints, framed pictures or canvases for the wall. We keep the turnaround fast, so you are not left waiting to see the results. Outdoors in Northwood we would head for Ruislip Woods National Nature Reserve, ancient woodland a short distance south.

Yes. Northwood sits on the London and Hertfordshire boundary, so we work in both directions from here as routine and nothing in Greater London falls outside the usual patch. A cat or a rabbit is photographed indoors where it lives, and so is any animal that is old or easily rattled. Dogs go better outdoors, on ground they walk anyway.

Ruislip Woods is the first suggestion most owners make for a dog, and it is only half right. Ancient woodland under full leaf is dark, and a moving dog needs a fast shutter far more than a seated person does. Raise the sensitivity to buy that speed and the picture goes grainy; leave the shutter slow and the legs smear. So the running pictures happen out where the trees give out and the sky does the work, with the shutter high enough to stop a stride cleanly. Deep inside the reserve is standing ground rather than running ground. Coat colour decides most of the rest. A black or dark coated dog against woodland shade is two dark things stacked on each other, and nothing done later separates them. The eyes go first, and an animal whose eyes have gone reads as an outline. That dog wants an open background and low sun coming from behind the photographer, which in practice means the first hour of daylight or the last. Pale dogs have the opposite trouble and sit better under the canopy than out on a bright verge. Anxious dogs are where having the room in the town pays off in a way that cannot be copied elsewhere. A dog can come in, walk the floor, take a treat and leave again without a camera being lifted at all, and then come back another day and start properly. None of that is available when the room is an hour off, and it is the whole distance between a picture of a worried animal and a picture of your dog.
