The short answer

Can you photograph my dog in a West London park?

Yes, within each park's rules, which change from borough to borough. Ealing asks for leads in some areas and keeps dogs out of fenced play areas and bowling greens; Hounslow's 2025 order limits one person to four dogs; Chiswick House wants short leads in its Italian and Kitchen Gardens; and Hillingdon asks for its permission before professional photos in its green spaces. Travel from Northwood to the park is set out in your written quote.

Kaushik was great when he took photos of our wedding, and was equally great when doing a family studio session, involving entertaining 8 children (ages 0 up to 11).

Sean C., Google review, 2017

We have been to Kaushik’s studio over many years for photos for passport renewals. He is very professional and has always taken the best pictures. We booked a family session recently and he did an amazing job and put us at ease for the portrait shots. Beautiful and artistic photos. We are very pleased with them. We would highly recommend his services.

Dee A., Google review, 2020

Amazing experience with Kaushik Bathia photography. Professionalism and picture quality are top notch. My wife is extremely impressed with the pictures and we received them right on time for the holidays.

Ealing

Pitshanger Park, Perivale Park and the one Ealing wood dogs cannot enter

Ealing Council welcomes dogs in its parks, but asks for a lead in some areas and keeps dogs out of fenced children's play areas, bowling greens, cricket wickets and sports pitches. Pitshanger Park, along the River Brent, is described by the council as a favourite with dog walkers for its large open spaces and good paths, which suits running and recall shots. Perivale Park and Meadows allows dogs in all its green spaces and has a café with a drinking area for dogs, handy for a break mid-session.

One place to avoid: Perivale Wood, the 27-acre ancient oak reserve run by the Selborne Society, keeps its gates locked and admits no animals other than registered guide dogs. Horsenden Hill nearby is the better choice for a dog session with a view. If a professional dog walker is joining with several dogs, Ealing requires a permit, running from 1 April to 31 March, which covers up to six dogs.

Chiswick and Gunnersbury

Chiswick House's dog playground and Gunnersbury's lakes

Dogs are welcome in the grounds at Chiswick House but must be on short leads in the Italian Garden, the Kitchen Garden, the café areas and wherever signposted. They are not allowed in the house, the conservatory, picnic areas or the playground, and must stay out of the lake. A dog playground opened in 2024, which gives an energetic dog somewhere to let off steam before calmer portraits by the villa.

Gunnersbury Park, the former Rothschild estate on Chiswick's northern edge, welcomes dogs under control but keeps them out of the museum and playgrounds. Its 72 hectares of Grade II* listed parkland include lakes and formal gardens, so a dog on a lead by the water and a run on the open lawns can come from the same visit, about 9.9 miles from Northwood.

Hounslow and Feltham

Hounslow's dog order: four dogs, mapped zones and the heath

Hounslow Council's Responsible Dog Ownership order, enforced since 1 March 2026 and running to 29 September 2028, bars anyone from walking more than four dogs at once and requires a lead when an authorised officer asks. Dogs are excluded from children's play areas, fenced sports areas, fenced war memorial areas and the remembrance garden in Lampton Park, and need leads in cemeteries and churchyards.

Hounslow Heath, about 200 acres west of the town, and Bedfont Lakes Country Park in Feltham both have dog-exclusion and lead-only areas marked on the council's published maps. Look at the map for your chosen spot before the session so the off-lead pictures happen where they are allowed. Stamford Brook Common in Chiswick is one of only two Hounslow sites where the order bars commercial dog walkers.

Brent and Hammersmith

Gladstone Park's railings and Ravenscourt Park's dog area

In Gladstone Park, on the hill at Dollis Hill, dogs must be on a lead in the walled garden and inside the low black railings, and are kept out of the playgrounds, outdoor gym, tennis courts and games area. The meadows and tree-lined avenues beyond those parts give room to move, with the city spread out below. Roundwood Park in Harlesden has a dog control order on its entrance and flower gardens.

In Hammersmith and Fulham, the council says most parks and open spaces have areas where dogs can exercise off the lead. Ravenscourt Park, a 32-acre park with a lake that was once part of a medieval moat, has a dog exercise area, and Furnivall Gardens beside the Thames on Lower Mall has one too. Hammersmith is about 10.7 miles from Northwood, and travel is quoted in writing before you book.

Kensington, Heathrow and home

Holland Park leads, Hillingdon permission and pets at home

Kensington and Chelsea sets the tightest rules here. Dogs must be on leads in the formal gardens and woodland of Holland Park and Avondale Park, are banned from the Kyoto Garden and every playground, and must stay on leads and on signed paths at all times in Brompton Cemetery. Athlone Gardens off Portobello Road has a fenced exercise area for off-lead play. Near Heathrow, Hillingdon asks for its permission before professional photos in its green spaces, and its 2025 order requires a lead on a pavement within 3 metres of a road.

Cats, rabbits and older dogs are usually more relaxed at home, so Kaushik can photograph them in your house or garden anywhere in West London; a calm portrait at the Northwood studio is the other option. See pet photography for how sessions run, the town pages for Ealing, Chiswick and Hounslow, or the West London photographer hub. Pet session prices come on request by phone or WhatsApp.

Planning

Planning around West London

01

Perivale Wood: no dogs

Perivale Wood's gates are normally locked and only registered guide dogs may enter, so choose Horsenden Hill or Perivale Park instead.

02

Chiswick House: short leads

Short leads in the Italian Garden, Kitchen Garden and café areas; no dogs in the lake, conservatory or playground; a dog playground since 2024.

03

Hounslow: four dogs

Hounslow's order limits one person to four dogs at once, so a shoot with a large family pack needs more than one handler.

04

Gladstone Park railings

At Gladstone Park, leads go on inside the low black railings and in the walled garden; the meadows beyond give a dog more room.

05

Kyoto Garden: no dogs

Dogs are banned from Holland Park's Kyoto Garden and need leads in its formal gardens and woodland, so plan a calm, on-lead portrait there.

06

Hillingdon permission

Near Heathrow, Hillingdon Council asks for permission before professional photos are taken in its green spaces, even for personal use.

Dog walks and parks in West London

Parks, open spaces and dog rules across West London, each shown with its source.

  • Gladstone Park: Gladstone Park on Cricklewood's western edge, a Brent park since May 1901, sits on a hill with views across London and has a walled garden, rose terraces, a duck pond and a Green Flag award; dogs must be on a lead in the walled garden and are barred from the playgrounds, outdoor gym and courts. 1
  • Lampton Park: Lampton Park at 40 Harte Road, Hounslow (TW3 4LD), holds a Green Flag Award. 2
  • Chiswick House Gardens: The gardens at Chiswick House, created alongside the 18th-century Palladian villa, are described by the Chiswick House and Gardens Trust as the first English landscape garden; they are free to enter and open daily from 7am until dusk. 3
  • Queen's Park (the park): Queen's Park on Kingswood Avenue (NW6 6SG), managed by the City of London Corporation, is a 30-acre park laid out in 1887 by Alexander McKenzie with no straight lines, bold tree planting and open lawns, and keeps a veteran oak and hawthorn from the hedgerow that pre-dates it. 4
  • Bishops Park: Bishops Park on Bishop's Avenue, SW6 6EA, is a Grade II-listed Green Flag park beside Fulham Palace with a rose garden, moat garden, ornamental lake and a river walk on the Thames Path, a 7-minute walk from Putney Bridge station (District line). 5

Good to know

Pet photography in West London: questions answered

Yes. Dogs are welcome in the grounds on a short lead in the Italian Garden, Kitchen Garden and café areas, and are kept out of the house, conservatory, picnic areas, playground and lake. The gardens open daily from 7am until dusk, so an early session is possible, and the 2024 dog playground is useful for burning off energy first.

Dogs are welcome at Gunnersbury if they are under control and cleaned up after, though they cannot go into the museum or the playgrounds. Follow any signs on the day, and keep a lead handy near the lakes, which are used for seasonal pedalo boating. Gunnersbury sits on the Ealing and Hounslow border, about 9 miles from Northwood.

Perivale Wood admits no animals other than registered guide dogs, and its gates are normally locked. Across Ealing's other parks, dogs are kept out of fenced children's play areas, bowling greens, cricket wickets and sports pitches, and must be on a lead in some areas, so read the signs at the entrance you use.

It depends on the borough. Ealing lets a paid walker with a council permit take up to six dogs, Hounslow's order limits anyone to four at once, and in Hillingdon one person may not walk more than four dogs without a licence. For a multi-dog session, bring enough handlers to stay within the local limit.

Yes. In Kensington Gardens, a 107-hectare Royal Park shared with Westminster, dogs generally need not be on a lead, but they are restricted at the edges of the Round Pond and the Long Water, around the Italian Gardens fountains and in the Flower Walks. Kensington is about 11.3 miles from Northwood, and travel is set out in your written quote.

Yes. Cats are photographed on their own terms, somewhere they feel secure, which normally means at home, and rabbits and small pets are the same. Kaushik comes to your house anywhere from Northolt to Fulham, and the pictures are taken at your pet's pace, with treats and patience rather than forced poses.

A West London pet shoot is priced on request by phone or WhatsApp on 07956 505383. The quote includes travel from Northwood to your park or home, worked out from the distance, for example about 5.7 miles to Greenford or 9.5 to Hounslow, and set out in writing before you book.
