Yes. We travel out from Northwood to the whole borough and to Notting Hill, Knightsbridge and Earls Court, all of which sit on our normal round. At the address we need one room with the furniture pushed back to the walls and about half an hour of nobody coming and going. For a dog we would usually do part of it at the address and part outdoors.

A dog in this borough reaches Holland Park already walked. It has come on a lead from home, through streets, and by the time a session starts it has spent the first and best of its attention simply getting there. That single fact reorders everything. A young dog is let off and photographed second, once the arrival has burned away and it will hold a look for longer than a moment. An older dog is photographed first, near the gate, before the walk in and the walk round have added up on it. Getting that order backwards is the usual reason a pet session yields one good frame instead of twenty. The other local consideration is crowds rather than cars. A museum entrance is by its nature a place where people gather and stand about, and the Natural History Museum on Cromwell Road is that kind of ground, which asks something of a nervous dog that is quite unlike what a road asks. For any dog described to us as nervous we would keep well away from that end of things and start inside the park, on ground the dog has already walked in its own time, with a long line attached until we can see how the recall is holding up.
