For Kingston upon Thames

Studio and outdoor pet photography in Kingston upon Thames

Most dog sessions are finished inside forty minutes, because that is roughly how long the good attention lasts and everything after it looks like work.

The camera goes down to eye level with the animal, which means kneeling in whatever the ground happens to be that day. You get the edited set back in colour, plus mono where a dark coat reads better without it. A lead can stay on the whole time and be removed at the edit, so nobody has to gamble on recall beside a road.

Why choose us

Why pet owners in Kingston upon Thames choose us

Owners are kept in the room and used deliberately, since a dog will give a look to its own person that no stranger can ever hope to get. We plan the light and background before your pet arrives, so the time together is spent playing, not fiddling with kit.

Prints, framed pictures and canvases are all available, so your favourite images can go straight on the wall. Multiple pets, mixed households of cats and dogs, and small furry pets are all welcome in a single session.

Good to know

Pet Photographer in Kingston upon Thames, FAQs

That is completely normal and rarely a problem. We work with a lively dog rather than against it, catching its character between the games. For dogs from London, we happily embrace the action too, with spirited shots mid-leap. Stillness is never needed for a great portrait. Outdoors in Kingston upon Thames we would head for Canbury Gardens, riverside gardens along the Thames, with Bushy Park a short distance away.

Yes. Kingston upon Thames is well inside the area we cover, along with Hampton Wick, Ham and Teddington, and dog sessions happen where the dog already walks rather than anywhere new. We agree a meeting point rather than an address, usually a park gate, and start from there. Cats and smaller pets are done at your home, since moving them is the surest way to ruin a session.

Very often. A puppy or kitten session captures those fast-changing early weeks before they grow up. For families in London, we keep it gentle and playful, working in short bursts and letting the little one explore, so the pictures hold all that early character. This applies across Kingston upon Thames and Hampton Wick, Ham and Teddington.

Regularly. Canbury Gardens covers most of it, and Bushy Park a short distance away is worth the trip for a dog that needs to run properly. Riverside work has one rule: the dry frames are made before anyone goes in the water, because a wet coat lies flat and photographs several shades darker. An older or anxious dog is better off with a short visit well away from the town centre.

Very. With twenty-five years behind the lens and thousands of sessions, we have photographed dogs, cats, horses and small pets of every age and temperament. That experience means a calm, quick and gentle presence that puts even anxious animals at ease. Kingston upon Thames and neighbouring Hampton Wick, Ham and Teddington are all covered.

Water is the first decision in a Kingston pet session and it is a question of order, not of place. Canbury Gardens runs along the Thames, and a dog that swims comes out of it a different animal: the coat lies flat, all the texture goes, and it reads two shades darker than it did ten minutes earlier. So the portrait frames are made first, on dry ground, and the river is saved for last. Do it the other way round and there is nothing left to go back to. Coat colour then decides where the animal stands. Open water is the brightest surface in the frame on any day with cloud about, and a dark dog placed between the camera and the river simply loses its face, coming back as a flat shape with nothing readable in it. Putting planting or the far bank behind the dog instead gives a tone near enough to the coat to work against, and the bright water is kept for the wide frames where a silhouette is what we want. Nervous and older animals are better off well away from the town centre. A market place is busy and hard underfoot, with strangers passing at close range, and a dog that is already unsure will not settle in it. The gardens are quieter, the surface is kinder to stiff hips, and the session can run at whatever pace the animal sets. Bushy Park is a short distance away and earns its travel only for a dog with reliable recall that needs to run flat out.
