Studio and outdoor pet photography in Westminster

Forty minutes is the plan, and we stop on the animal's terms rather than working down a shot list. Treats stay in your pocket and not ours: an animal fixed on the person it belongs to is far easier to photograph than one fixed on a stranger.

Most of it is photographed from floor level, because a picture taken from standing height only shows the view of the dog you already have every day of the week. Blinks and half-turns are thrown out before the gallery reaches you.

Why choose us

Twenty-five years with animals

A fast shutter speed is what freezes a dog mid-leap, so the light is arranged first and that speed is available before anybody throws anything. Walking a dog that will not settle beats pressing on. Ten minutes outside resets an animal far more effectively than another twenty minutes of trying indoors.

One photographer runs the session, which keeps the room quiet, and no assistant appears unless the work genuinely calls for a second pair of hands. Frames of an animal on its own and frames with its owner are both taken, since the second kind is the one people wish they had later.

Good to know

Pet Photographer in Westminster, FAQs

Very often. A puppy or kitten session captures those fast-changing early weeks before they grow up. We keep it gentle and playful, working in short bursts and letting the little one explore, so the pictures hold all the character of those first months. Around Westminster we plan for landmarks such as The Palace of Westminster and Big Ben beside the River Thames.

Yes. Alongside your edited digital gallery, we offer fine prints, framed pictures and canvases, so your favourite images can go straight onto the wall at home in Westminster. We are glad to help you choose sizes and finishes that suit your rooms.

That is completely normal, and rarely a problem. We work with an energetic dog rather than against it, catching character between the games and, if it suits, embracing the action with lively shots of your dog mid-leap. Stillness is never a requirement for a great portrait. For outdoor photographs in Westminster we would suggest St James's Park, a royal park with a lake, pelicans and views to Buckingham Palace.

Sooner than you might expect. We keep things moving quickly so you are not waiting long. When your edited gallery is ready, you can view, share and choose your favourites, and we will gladly help Westminster clients select prints, frames or canvases for the wall.

Because we will tell you what Westminster can and cannot give you. St James's Park has water birds on the lake, so a dog session there stays on the lead, and we frame it so the lead can be lifted out of the finished pictures. Everything else is done where the animal lives, at floor level, in about forty minutes, stopping when the dog is done with us.

Pet work is the smallest thing booked in Westminster and it is worth saying why rather than dressing the borough up as something it is not. St James's Park is a royal park with a lake and water birds on it, pelicans among them. A lake full of birds and a dog with no lead attached is not an arrangement anybody should be setting up on purpose, so plan for the lead staying on throughout and plan the pictures around that rather than against it. Standing, sitting, walking beside a person, looking up at somebody it trusts: all of those photograph well on a lead. The frames of a dog at full stretch, which is what most owners picture when they imagine a session, are not what this ground can offer, and hearing that beforehand is better than discovering it on the day. A lead is simple to lift out of a finished picture where it crosses plain path and awkward where it crosses grass, railings or anything patterned, so we place the handler to drop the line against the simplest thing available. Stone is the other consideration. It is pale and a black or chocolate coat is not, and a camera set for the stone renders the dog as an outline. The fix is to work closer, give the animal more of the frame and let the background go bright, rather than trying to hold both ends. Old dogs, and any animal that finds the street hard going, do better indoors where they live and nothing arrives from behind.
